I truely respect the opinion of Michael Lombardi and think that he is a great sports write but I find his recent blog about the Dolphins entertaining offers for Ronnie Brown to be absolutly wrong. Ronnie Brown is the best player on our current roster and is starting to truely hit his stride in the NFL. Now that we seem to have our Offensive Line set in stone I expect Ronnie Brown to have his best year to date. We have all had a chance to witness Ronnie Brown grow in front of our very eyes. Brown has proved to be a tremendous play-maker, a tough runner willing to fight for an extra-yard, and a guy with the ability to hit the big run. Not to mention that Ronnie Brown is a vital component of our "Wild-Cat" offense which we rode for a division title last season.

I think the Dolphins didn't want to over-work Ronnie Brown last year which is why we saw a lot of Ricky Williams. Now we find Ronnie Brown 18 months removed from ACL surgery with a solid line coming off a Pro-Bowl campaign and we are looking to trade him? I don't buy it. Despite the believes of a lot of people I see Ronnie Brown as a top five running-back in the league and I only see him getting better. My money would be that we lock him up with a 3-4 year deal before the end of next season. His lack of production yardage wise last year can be attributed to our front office undertsanding that Brown tore his ACL the prior year and not wanting him to suffer a career shortening injury. Let's not forget that before Brown tore his ACL in the 2007 season he was having an MVP type season.

Beofre last season Ronnie Brown was the only bright spot of the last decade of Dolphins football. We have went through the underachieving Wannstadt years, Nick Saban and Ricky Williams deserting us, and Cam Cameron putting us through the single worst season our franchise has ever endured. After Ricky Williams quit on us Saban drafted Ronnie b/c he knew how much of a beast he was when he played against Auburn while coaching at LSU. We could have drafted Cedric Benson who has been a bust or Carnell Williams who cannot stay healthy. We drafted the right guy and we all forgot about how Ricky deserted us b/c Ronnie Brown came in and made things happen.

We owe Ronnie Brown a lot of credit b/c he is loyal to the Miami Dolphins and is our best player. I think that you will see him with ball in his hands a lot more this season and I think he makes another Pro-Bowl appearence. I truely belive Ronnie will have his best season to date next year and it would be better if he had it wearing the Aqua and Orange

Lets also not forget that every year he has played there has been sort of mitagating circumstance that prevented him from putting up big numbers. Irregardless if they are true or not, Ronnie Brown has more excuses then a politican. What he does not have is the production numbers.

I respect the time and effort you put into your post. I am not convinced of your argument though. I think he is one our top talents but not out most talented nor our most important one. I would not put alot of stock into the fact that Saban drafted him either. saban does not exactly have the greatest track record with drafting for us.

I am hopefull that Ronnie has a big year and I agree that he probably wont be traded unless someone is willing to way overpay for him. All in all though it is just wishfull thinking. Ronnie has showed flashes of potential but has yet to deliver on the promise he brought with him. Now we are at the final year of his rather healthy contract and hopefully he can give us 1 special year out of this deal.

I dont remember what he signed for but I know I'ld be smiling all the time if I signed that contract too. He has not earned his paycheck yet. His fault or not, it is a fact.

in summary, you dont want ronnie to be traded. unfortunately you do not have the final say.

The FO will treat this as any other FO would treat it, as a business decision - and they will do what they see as the best option for the dolphins. Emotion doesnt come into it.

Of course you are right, but I think it would take quite an offer for us to give him up. Probably an offer no team would make.

Well written article. While I agree with your observations, they are primarily a fan's sentiment.
Unfortunately, the NFL is a business and the Dolphins do not owe Ronnie anything, nor does Ronnie owe the Dolphins anything.
I completely agree that Ronnie is the best player on our offense and probably the best player on our team.
But the fact of the matter is Ronnie will be treated like any other business decision.
IF the front office plans on resigning him next year, then he is essentially our franchise player for years to come.
If they do not see themselves resigning him after next season, I can see him being traded. Its a better idea to get something for him, if you are due to lose him.

I love Ronnie and only want to see him as a Dolphin, but this could still go either way.

It's a business so what BUSINESS sense does trading your best player and most marketable player mean? If you want to talk business I own and run one everyday of my life so I know all about business. I don't want Ronnie to be traded and he won't be. Parcells is smart, not an idiot, and trading Brown would be a move an idiot would make.

What sense does trading Ronnie Brown make when he is the only play-maker you have on your entire offense? Answer that.. Business like

If we didn't have Ronnie Brown last season we are 7-9 at best. the wild-cat was the main reason for our Offensive success and without Ronnie there is no wild-cat

When I heard about Miami possibly trading Ronnie Brown I said no way! However after looking at his stats since he has played in the NFL - he has only had one year where he had over 1000 yards. I wouldn't be surprised if the team traded him before the draft. Parcells likes way more production out of his backs then what Ronnie has produced so far.

Also as far as your mock draft. There is no way Hakeem Nicks-Wide Receiver-North Carolina drops to number 44. We would be lucky if we got him at 25. Butler will also be long gone at 25.

I agree it would clearly hurt the offense to get rid of him this year. By no means would it help the team.

But, if the FO does not plan to commiting him to a new contract it is a good business decision to trade him away and get some value for him, instead of just letting him walk next year (other then what I see as a very productive upcoming season.)

Again I want Ronnie on the team and believe he needs to be resigned, but I will be even more heartbroken if we lose him to FA next year with no compensation. The sting would be even worse.

well I must protest this opinion of trading Ronnie .

reason #1 he and Cobbs make a great tandem and this will be Ricky's last year with Miami and he is about to turn close to 30 to 34 .

reason #2 Ronnie is more vaulable then Ginn, Camarillo, Ricky and Wilford combine.

reason #3 unless we draft a really good runningback I cant see the logic in trading Ronnie

if anything I can see us parting ways with Ricky . Now Idid hear that since the chiefs changes coaching staffs recently Rb Larry Borw will stay ther but Runningback ace Dantrell Savage will liky be a goner so I could see us bringing in savage if we traded Ricky .

reason 4 I cant anticpate Miami drafting a runingback this year . this has about as much chance of happening as Wanny has of being elected into the coaches' hall of fame.

Ricky has no value. Ronnie does have value currently, so he is available for trade. Given the needs of the team and his talent, the price will be very high.

I would put at least 3 players above Ronnie Brown.

Chad Pennington
Jake Long
Joey squeaky Porter

This is a flat out false statement.

Pennington isnt a playmaker?
Tedd ginn
devon bess
Fasno
Martin
Polite
Williams
Long
Camirillo

They are all playmakers and they are all good role players. This team does not live and die by Ronnie Browns performance. Those are just the offensive playmakers I listed and framkly the Defense was as strong as a contributor to our sucess last season too. I could name a string of playmakers for us on that side of the ball as well.

Im not advocating trading RB but the fact is if the right offer was made it would be foolish to hang on to him. He is not the Miami Dolphins he is one piece of the organazation and he is expendable.

If a team comes up with the right price...Brown will be traded. He will never have the value he has now...this is a weak draft class for RB...and if the Wildcat is to progress...someone else will have to do it..other than R. Brown. With R. Brown with the wildcat...he's far more a threat to run than pass...with him in...it's 10 Dolphins to 11 defenders.

IF he's traded...I fully expect that the Dolphins will select a guy like Pat White...who is a threat at both running and passing.
