Hey, everyone, I am a big Cincinnati Bengal fan, and we are looking for a safety. I was wanting to get some expert opinions on how Lance played in '05. I remember him from his time with the Titans. He was a very good safety back then. He is just the type of safety Marvin Lewis likes because he can play both SS and FS. I didn't get to see him play for Miami, and you can't tell much about a safety from just the stats. So what is your opinion of his play for the Fins? How much was he paid this last year, and how much is he asking for in free agency? Is the team interested in having him back. I did read that he was actually listed as second string in the pre-season, so you guys must have a solid back up.

Thanks for them info. If you have any questions about Bengal players on the market I'll be glad to fill you in.

Good luck in '06. I'll be rooting for you to beat some Steeler butt this year.

He was one of the real bright spots in our secondary. He had plenty of passion, lead the team in INTs, and was 3rd in tackles, so I for one thought he did a great job for us.

Edited: Also, the Dolphins do seem very interested in having him back

IMO he played very well last year. like tay0365 said he was one of the few birght spots in the defensive backfield. I would love to keep him!

I hope we bring him back also. He was a real force and played like a probowler the second half of the season after he got a good feel of the scheme. I hope Capers don't cange the secondary much but from the D he built in Carolina I can't wait to have a dominating D like we had for so long again.

Schulters seemed to always come up with the big play when we needed it. Also he covered well, and helped bottle up the run.

In our system there is no FS or SS...there is Right Safety and Left Safety. By switching up the positions it helps to confuse the offense, and makes it harder for the QB to read the coverage. It also gives the players chances to show all his skills. In coverage, Run-support, and Rushing the QB schulters did an adequate job at the beginning of the year, and really improved as the system became familiar with him. He also was able to stay healthy, which was a big question. Schulters is our top priority to re-sign.

Also: I hope Carson recovers...i loved watching him toss the ball....

He struggled in the beginning of the year with Saban's system, as did all the DBs...But he, as was mentioned above, was the bright spot in the secondary for us last year. He can play both positions, but really is better suited to FS...He's lost a step from his prime, but his game savvy is excellent. He seems to know where to be...he's a little weak in run support, but that's not the gist of what Saban asks his safeties to do...Fisher ran more of the cover 2 like Lewis likes to run, so he'd fit finely there, IMO...However, the hope here is that we can afford to re-sign him...he is looking for the big payday....

I like Lance and hope we keep him. As others have said, he was basically saved some games for us.

I hope Carson recovers too, after he went down I almost broke my TV, that was ridiculous.

Lance did good, he was really good in run support, and made some big plays with his INT's and getting his hands on the ball, BUT.......... there were some times where he looked absolutely lost in coverage, mostly just deep coverage though, and mostly when he ended up singled up with a WR. You're going to see everyone on here say that he was our best secondary player, but I just do not agree, Madison had a really good second half of the season, and not too many QB's were throwing in his direction for most of the year anyway(which would suggest that Sam was covering his guy), teams seemed to want to test and test Often our rookie CB Travis Daniels last year and Daniels did Fantastic for a rookie. All in All Lance is a good player, and he can be a real good asset to your team, but if you get him you better hope you don't see him one on one with a WR more than 20 yards down the field.

SCHULTERS played well last year, all things considered - but he is NOT a special player.

The goal should be to upgrade the position ... or sign him to a reasonable contract ... ~ 2 MIL per year - max.

He was awesome in run defence. Just average in pass defence though. I remember a few time that he got toasted deep. He is a good saftey though. I hope to see him back in Miami next year

He tends to slip on turf sometimes...

Hey Grapeape, your anti-squirrel coalition doesn't have anything to do with Kelley Washington's "squirrel dance" does it?
