Hey everyone I am just looking for logical honest answers from some of the real live knowledgable football buffs on this site on what you believe the coaching staff is trying to do with our offensive line?
Generally almost all the the posts on this site are negative about the personel on the OL. Either the personel we have are considered inferior or playing in the wrong position according to most posters. I hear ya but there has to be some logic or sense of accoumplishment on what the staff is trying to do. I know most of you believe they are mis-quiided but they certainly must believe in some sort of scheme. Here is what I have picked up on this forum.
LT Long (everyone is happy with the guy just hope he is not nicked up or has some undisclosed injury)
LG R Inconito (should be playing center or right guard becasue he can pull better than the RB)
C. Pouncy (Doing a decent job at center but would conrtibute more at right guard because he can pull better than the rest of the lineman on the team)
RG. Carey (To slow and fat cannot pull not very mobile would be better placed at RT but would still be marginal)
RT. Columbo (Bacially his injury from a couple of years ago robbed him of the flexibility to play the position he just cannot get the job done.

G/T/C Nate Gadener (Still not back from pre-injury form but the best of the back ups)
G/T/C Cook (Recent signing did poorly at all positons except center for the Vikes and was only marginal)
RT/G Jerry (All reports from training camp he moved backwards from last year after he started and was later benched. Should be cut and team needs to move on)

So there you have it. Reading all this over you would think that moving Carey over RT, Pouncy to RG, Incognito to Center and inserting Nate Gardner to LG would be the move to make. Just my opinion, but I want yours and why you think our OL staff is thinking the way that are.

The only thing I could think is they want to build it up through the draft. I guess they thought it was good enough for this year so they didn't want to spend a bunch of money on older FA.

wow, i don't want to be here when late April rolls around and Miami has drafted OL in rnds 1, 2 or 3... even if it was justified

I think Sparano honestly just thinks they need time to gel. I think he has seen what him tinkering with the lineup constantly has gotten us the last 2 seasons and is willing to ride it out this year and has hope they become a cohesive unit. Also, they may not have to be stellar with this new offense, and with Chad making better, faster reads, getting rid of the ball quickly.
I personally don't know what gelling will do for Colombo's obvious step back in play though. It really is peculiar. Maybe the even have new blocking schemes in mind that they didn't want to show in preseason as well. Seriously though, who knows, it's quite the mystery. Can't wait to watch the OL on Monday.

Here's my two cents.

I believe they are happy with Long at LT. I believe that Incognito played pretty good at LG last year so they are leaving him there, especially since they drafted a C and want to keep Pouncey playing that position and get him comfortable somewehere. I believe they are happy with Carey and moved him to RG to help with the big DT's they will be facing vs. NE and NJY, especially with the 4-3 that NE will be playing this year. At RT they brought in the only other guy they could get into camp and are hoping he works out.

GO PHINS~!

Yea Monday should start telling the true tale of what happening and will be interesting to see the results.

Fluffy Sparano thinks he has to get lucky to keep his job & will just talk fluff. His job is in Henne's hands.

Ireland is probably thinking he better get this fixed next year, or he'll get Harbaughed too.

This is nothing new with the OL:
Were crappy 2 years ago.
Were crappier last year.
Are crappiest this year.

They're thinking, "I really hope this works."

Logical answer? I dont believe there is one.

Honestly, the offensive line situation is bringing up deja vu. Our special teams unit was a very flawed unit in preseason, but we kept them together and went into the season with them...only to have that gruesomely exploited week 3 and 4. It took the Jets special teams coach publically pointing out the flaw to the media before we corrected it. In that case, a ex-Cowboy.

Right now, we have a glaring flaw that we are keeping together and taking it into the season. Much like last season, i have a feeling an ex-Cowboy will be the weak link again.
In my opinion, the reason why we are going with this line-up is because our regime is feeling the heat from the owner. They have already shown a kneejerk quality and they know they have dumped a huge amount of effort for little results. Instead of being aggressive and admitting they made mistakes, they are going passive(much like they do during games when they settle for field goals instead of taking a chance to win). Ironically this inability to take a chance will probably be their downfall.

I cannot tell you the x's and o's of plays and why the coaching staff feels this lineup is fine. What i do recall is many of the more educated members on this forum were absolutely aghast at the play of Marc Columbo, calling him the worst offensive lineman in the history of the team.
