A couple of weeks ago I noticed that we were leading a statistical category that I wasn't that familiar with.

Team Drives starting in Opponent 20.

After 4 games we had 6 drives starting in the Red Zone and had twice as many of these than any other team.
The average is to get one every 50 drives (2%). After 4 weeks we were at 10%. So you wouldn't think that this could continue.
But against Green Bay we blocked another punt and added another. Then the Cam Wake strip sack last week added yet another.
So after 6 games we have 8 now and continuing to average 10.96% drives starting in Red Zone. The next closest team has 3

I decided to go back to 1990 and see what the best teams were in this category and how it reflected on season results
Currently the Dolphins are averaging twice as many as any of the top 22 teams over the last 24 years. Incredible.
If they get a few more they will surpass all the teams ahead of them for number of red zone drives. A majority of the team on this list
made the playoffs and the average record was between 10-6 and 9-7. 2 teams on this list made the Super Bowl with Baltimore winning in 2000

Props to this years defense for giving us great field position. Sure make the O's job easier for sure.
The season's still young so plenty of time to move up the list.

Here are the results of those 8 red zone possessions

How Gotten - Where - Result

Blocked Punt - NE 15 - TD
Fumble - NE 14 - FG
Fumble - KC 19 - TD
Interception - Oak 03 - TD
Interception - Oak 16 - Int
Downs - Oak 16 - End Game
Blocked Punt - GB 16 - Downs
Fumble - Chi 16 - FG

3 TD's and 2 FG's from these short field drives.

When I created the thread I was thinking I hope I don't jinx them. But last week instead of getting red zone starts they took it all the way to the house. The Grimes interception was our 9th starting possession in the red zone. That moves us up to 10th on the original list. Keep it up D.

That makes 11 on the season. One more and we tie best in the last 25 years. Simply Incredible. I hope it keeps happening

Bump

There you go, that is number 12 on the season. We have now as many drives started inside the opponents 20 as any team in the last 25 years.
What a defense we are witnessing.

Bump

Was away last week when they recovered the punt fumble in Denver. That makes 13 on the year.

That is the most by any team in the last 25 years and my thread creation did NOT jinx them. Lets gets some more tonight.

wow, I doubted this stat in another thread, but it seems like its legit. That is an incredible stat and I'm not sure if its sustainable. Let's hope it keeps up!
