Yikes... hopefully he will get over the events of Saturday, even though he made a big mistake in the game.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The instant replay official whose failure to overturn a bad call led to a narrow Oregon victory over Oklahoma said Monday he feels like he is under siege after threatening phone calls, including a death threat.

Gordon Riese said he would make a decision soon about whether to finish the season, or even whether to return next year.

"I'm struggling with it," Riese said in an interview at his home. "I feel so bad I missed that call, it's driving me crazy."

A former college baseball pitcher in the 1960s who was inducted into the Portland State Hall of Fame in 1997, Riese said he never played football but always enjoyed the game during 28 years as a Pacific-10 Conference official.

"I loved it, I absolutely loved it," Riese said.

But that was before he became an instant replay official.

"I've felt much, much more pressure as an instant replay official than I ever did on the field," Riese said.

He said the equipment is not as sophisticated as NFL replay equipment, and does not allow the official to freeze the frame. But Riese lays the blame on himself after replays showed that an onside kick was touched by an Oregon player before it had traveled the required 10 yards. The Ducks went on to score the go-ahead touchdown.

"I can't sleep, I can't eat, my blood pressure is skyrocketing," Riese said,
looking haggard and worn as he sat on the front porch of his house.

His wife is a registered nurse, and has been checking his blood pressure every four hours, he said.

Riese said he has stopped answering the phone, and police are investigating the threatening calls while keeping an eye on his neighborhood.

"They not only threatened me, they threatened my wife and kids," Riese said.

Riese has endured plenty of physical pain in his career. He said a torn rotator cuff ended his pitching days, all the ligaments in his right knee were torn when he was hit by an Oregon defensive back at Autzen Stadium in a 1984 game against Washington State, and he suffered a separated collarbone when he was run over by opposing linemen trying to block each other in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl.

The knee and the collarbone still bother him, occasionally, he said.

But not as much as his ruling from the booth last Saturday, Riese said.

"I don't know how to deal with it," he said. "I guess it's just one of those things."

That's not right. As bad of a missed call as it was, it is only football people. Threatening lives? That is just crazy. That being said it was a missed call and he should be punished (just like any of us would be punished if we messed up at work), but we are human and it is ONLY a game.

The refs did get suspended because of that call.

I hate it when our retarted fans do this :shakeno:

God Bless you man we all make mistakes....no matter how costly and OBVIOUS they are

OU's president wants the game results thrown out

Nah Ill let Oregon have this one...their joke of a program can have it, and spew all over it with their coach and their poster boy Phil Knight...Just do it b****

If OU and The Univeristy of (we have no tradition so we change our uni's every chance we get) Oregon sponcered by Nike run the table and we meet in a BCS bowl...the government will have to put the duck on the endagered list

I would say give the win to the Sooners. they recovered the ball and would have ran time out.

I heard a funny joke on the radio this morning.

How many Pac-10 officials does it take to screw in a light bulb?
None! Pac-10 officials don't screw light bulbs, they screw OKLAHOMA!

OU coach: Bad call 'unacceptable and inexcusable'

A phone call from Oregon coach Mike Bellotti was nice, but it did absolutely nothing to soothe Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops over an incorrect officials' ruling that likely cost his team a victory over the Ducks.

"He just apologized and said that it's unfortunate that the two of us have got to be in the middle of it," Stoops said Tuesday at his weekly news conference. "I said, 'Well, you didn't do anything wrong but play hard, and that's the same thing we were trying to do."

Stoops still was speaking out after Saturday night's 34-33 loss in Eugene, Ore., a game in which a blown call on an onside kick led to Oregon's winning touchdown in the final minute.

The Pacific-10 Conference admitted Monday the onside kick was touched by an Oregon player before it traveled the required 10 yards, and, therefore, possession should have been awarded to Oklahoma. The league suspended the officials responsible for one game, and commissioner Tom Hansen apologized for the mistake.

Had Oklahoma been given the ball, the offense could have run out the clock for a 33-27 win.

At Oregon, Bellotti said some might view the win as tainted.

"I feel very fortunate for us to have won that football game, not for the officials' errors, but for how our team played," he said. "We were lucky, we made plays and we never gave up. It's unfortunate that any team had to lose, or the efforts of my players are questioned, because of officials' errors."
Bellotti told Stoops when officials determine the outcome it's not good for either team.

"And I can understand their frustration," Bellotti said.

Although Stoops said his team could have done things differently to prevent the game from becoming so close, he was still upset at the result.

"We can't sit here and say OK," Stoops said. "It's unacceptable and inexcusable, to them (the players) and to us, because we can't get it back, and they earned it. That's the hard truth of it, and now our situation is severely altered."

If Oregon is such a joke, how the heck did they stay in a game where they had four turnovers and Oklahoma had none? Oregon was clearly the better team, and if not for some momentum-killing calls by the refs in the third quarter, there would have been no need for an onside kick in the first place. Sooner fans need to grow up and stop blaming everything on the refs. Your defense gave up over 500 yards. Pathetic.

I love these has-been programs that cite all of their 'tradition' as if no one was ever around back when they were winning. The University of Oregon has had a football program longer than Oklahoma has been a state.

Thats a big if.

Why can't you just blame the refs for the obvious bad call? Why do you have to talk so much trash on Oregon?? Classy

If we are such a has been program...why did your whole stadium rush the field after the 'win'?

Here are the reasons why Oregon stayed in the game

1) We hurt ourselves on the goaline twice...we score once its done no Pac-10 ref could help you then.

2) That 1st TD we gave up when Dixon ran it was on prevent D...almost every D lets the offense score becuase it really never matters.

3) the well documented Pac-10 homer official

EDIT: How was Oregon the better team...they had to cheat to win
