Baltimore's Jay Gibbons pulled off an unimaginable feat: He hit a foul ball that injured his wife.
The scene occurred in the ninth inning of the Orioles' game against Minnesota on Saturday at Camden Yards. Gibbons fouled a ball straight back over the screen and into the rib cage of his wife, Laura.
"She's just a little bruised up. She's going to be OK," Gibbons said yesterday.
Gibbons said he had asked team officials to do something about making it safer to sit in the seats behind the plate. He contended that the 20-foot screen does not offer enough protection from hard-hit foul balls.

On Opening Day 1940, Bob Feller threw a fastball that was fouled off into his mother's nose in the stands. So there is precedent for this.

BTW, Doug, nice thread title. Way to totally grab attention for the wrong reasons.

I can vouch for that! I was sitting 5 rows up, half way between homeplate and the Orioles dugout the other weekend and flinched everytime a foul ball was hit. Thats gotta be the smallest backstop net in the league.
