This guy is 6-7 and had 44 reps at 225 lbs. at his pro day. Dare I call that impressive. I looked at his background and I'm finding this guy to be intriguing. Someone had to give Harrell and Crabtree time to hook up so often. Hopefully his knee will be ok.

Good, bad day for Tech… Texas Tech OT Rylan Reed had to be taken to hospital after he appeared to suffer a dislocated kneecap running the 40 at yesterday‘s pro day in Lubbock. That was after Reed had bench pressed 225 pounds 44 reps or more than any player was able to do at the recent NFL combine in Indianapolis.

2007 - JUNIOR SEASON
Former minor league baseball player and converted tight end ... stifled Virginia All-American Chris Long in the Gator Bowl, limiting one of the nation's sacks leaders to three tackles and no sacks ... integral part in Texas Tech picking up the NCAA Passing Title ... part of offensive line that yielded only 18 sacks in 763 pass attempts ... allowed one sack all season.

He really needs to work on his strength first then maybe we'll look at him LOL!!!!!!

I've never heard of anyone doing 44 reps at 6-7. And giving up one sack all year in that offense? Former TE and baseball player. I think that this guy deserves a look or two.

Would have been worth a look if he did'nt dislocate his kneecap.

How bad is that, gone for the year type of thing? I'd take a late round flyer on this guy and let him heal up.

Maybe we should hire Texas Tech's strength coach. With Reed putting up 44 reps in the bench press at his pro day and Louis Vasquez putting up 39 reps at the combine, this gives Texas Tech two of the strongest linemen in the country.

Reed's upper body strength is not really a surprise because he holds the Texas Tech record in the bench press at 625 pounds which he set last July.

I hope for Reed's sake that he is not becoming injury prone as he broke his right ankle in the 2008 Gator Bowl and now apparently has dislocted his left kneecap.

How does a 6-7 guy bench 625 lbs? That's simply amazing.

I'm still intrigued by Gerald Cadogan and Garrett Reynolds, but Reynolds is slow and only put up 19 reps at the combine. Doesn't mean he can't be a good RT, though.

I'm not sure how Rylan does it but he is what my brother calls barrel chested. Meaning, despite being 6-6, his arms doesn't have to come down quite as far as other taller players thus shortening his range of motion for the bench press.

BTW, the Dolphins have a private workout scheduled on March 18th with Texas Tech OG, Louis Vasquez.

This is not the last chance Vasquez has to impress scouts, as he said he has a private workout with the Miami Dolphins - who had a representative in attendance - on March 18.

This is really a tradgedy. This might have been his last chance. He is 28 years old. He doesn't have time to have a major injury.

Maybe we should hire him to work with our strength and conditioning staff.

Well if he needs surgury on it, then you are looking at around a season as he more than likely suffered structural damage Jim. Then along with that you would have rehab and re-gaining fitness.

However it could be as short as 4-6 weeks. Mark Sanchez actually had the same injury in August of 08 and made a very quick recovery. So depends on the severity of the injury really.

Maybe it's really bad, maybe it isn't:

Physiotherapy

After dislocating a kneecap, you may have to wear a knee immobiliser for up to six weeks to stop the leg bending.
Later, special exercises can restore the knee to health and physiotherapy will help restore strength to the leg and knee joint.
While a meniscus is healing, you may need to use crutches.

Surgery
Surgery is not usually needed although in severe cases it may be required to repair damaged tissues or remove loose pieces of bone or tissue.
The younger and more active you are, the greater the chance that you may need surgery following a meniscus tear. The surgeon will try to preserve as much of the tissue as possible, because the meniscus is important for proper knee function.

What is the outcome of a dislocated kneecap and meniscus injury?
Kneecap dislocation is a fairly common injury. It is painful and almost always requires medical attention, although sometimes the kneecap returns to its proper location unaided. The injury is seldom permanently disabling and usually heals completely.

Severe meniscus tears may be slow to heal (up to a year in some cases) but very small ones will heal within weeks. Occasionally, a torn meniscus does not heal completely, leaving the joint permanently weakened. There is then more chance of re-injuring the tissue, even during moderate exercise.

I hope for his sake that its only the couple of weeks kind, as if it is severe then he is pretty much done in football at his age.

6-7, 315 lbs. Gave up one sack in a pass happy offense. Former minor league baseball player, so you know he has great hand eye coordination and probably is very athletic. Put up 44 reps of 225 lbs. and benches 625 at 6 foot 7 inches. Had a great bowl game against Chris Long. If the kneecap dislocation is low grade, despite his age, I consider him with one of the 3 7th rd picks. Hypothetically, the guy could play until he's 35 or so, eight years. I'll take that, the age wouldn't make him untouchable to me. I'm just thunderstruck by the strength of this dude.
