In all the crush of Brees threads and speculation we shouldn't miss other news happening. Not only did the Phins sign Hodge, Shelton, and Goodman they also cut loose Eric Wilson and failed to offer tenders to two guys who have at times been "darlings" of this board, WR Kendall Newson and C/G Alonzo Ephraim. This coupled with visits by Ashworth and Vanderjagt suggests the team was not dropping everything and pursuing a QB but diligently working on Saban's plan for overall improvement. Way to go front office.

Here is the link where the other signins and activities is chroniciled.

Thanks for the post and the link. Glad that someone is keeping his overall perspectice.

You are welcome. I wonder what this does at C? With McKinney unsigned and now Ephriam cut, that leaves us Hadnot, if he moves inside, and Wade Smith, if he comes back healthy. Could this mean signing a RT like Ashworth is in the works allowing Carey to move into RG??????

I rekon from these moves that we must be close to a deal with a FA C probably mawae which would be a great boost to the O-line to go along with LJ shelton

those were exactly my thoughts. Ashworth is definitely a RT, and if Carey can't unseat Sheldon, he will go back to his college position at RG.

Anyone know anything about Shelton? I was talking to an AZ Cards fan yesterday and he said the guy stinks and just takes up space, and has bad technique...I'm hoping he's wrong, anyone know?

With the Brees/Culpepper issue yet to be solved, is it possible that offers are ready to be extended to guys like Adams,Mawae, etc. There has been no new news on those guys planning other visits. Also Arrington,Givens,Ashworth, and Peterson. I also heard that Will Allen was cut loose. Is he and maybe Law a possibility?

Nothing...yet. I think he was told to wait and see what happens with our QB situation.

Shelton was not very good in his early years with AZ. My opinion is that he read his own clippings and didn't work on his technique enough once he got to the pros trying instead to do what he did in college and that is get by on sheer athletic ability. However I watched him last year in Cleveland and he was a fine LT for them. Good pass blocker and better run blocker. With Houck at the helm, Shelton could have a pro-bowl year.

Mawae has signed with TN, so I'm still looking at the possibility of signing Ashworth and moving Carey inside. Of course with Bentley in Cleveland, the Browns are now shopping Faine who might get cut. While he is no Bentley, I think he is better than McKinney.

I also think Wade Smith will be in the mix come camp.

Looks like Mawae is heading for Tennessee:
