Other Games: Week 4

This could be Rob Ryan's last job as a DC in the NFL and it may come to an end before much longer. The Saints defense is horrible.

Don't worry, his name will come up as the guy we should hire to be our next head coach regardless of whether or not he gets fired.

I hope the Patriots are as bad as the Bills and Jets. Why is it that the Jets and Bills always play us different than they play everyone else. I guess we're their super bowl. Emanuel Lewis and Jeno are terrible and I can't see them beating us unless we beat ourselves. The Texans sure looked good with a terrible looking Arian Foster. What happened to him? I think NE will be ready tonight, I sure hope KC stops the run and brings it against Brady.

Rob Ryan is having the same issue he has everywhere else. His blitz packages work at first, but once teams start picking up your blitzing you have to adapt. Rex had a bit of that issue a few years ago with the Jets, but he was able to adjust.

And yes the Saints are completely awful on the road. Sean Payton reportedly was quoted before the season in saying if they don't split their road games he didn't think they had any shot in the playoffs.

Of course the other issue with the Saints is this; they don't really know defense. They constantly try to build on a strength through the draft (offense) and will pass on good defensive players for an offensive weapon. In contrast the Jets are the opposite way.

Even before Philbin, we've either killed the Bills or looked terrible against them. No in between. Similarly recently when we have lost to the Jets it always seems like we lost rather than them winning.

Foster has had injuries but no longer being in Kubiak's offense hurts him as well. For years in Denver guys any and everybody would run for 1,000 behind that line, leave, and suck.

Gary Kubiak's track record is amazing.

Really like some things I've seen from Bill Lazor, but still wish we'd hired Kubiak.

Im not sure i agree with that. They've had 7 first round picks since 2008 and spent 5 of them on defensive players: Sedrick Ellis, Malcolm Jenkins, Patrick Robinson, Cameron Jordan, and Kenny Vaccaro. Meanwhile, theyve mined the mid and late rounds for guys who fit their scheme: Colston, Graham, a couple of speedy wideouts, lineman, etc.
The problem is most of the high picks have been busts and most of the late rounders have stood out. Thats mostly due to superior coaching and superior quarterback play in my opinion, with the monster known as Graham being an exception, Colston as well the few times hes healthy.

I dont agree with Ryan's(both of them) way of building defenses. They are fairly content to ignore edge rushers and almost pathologically focus on defensive backs and interior lineman. While those are undoubtedly nice to have, i just cant see any aggressive scheme working without a significant investment in the pass rush. Rex has at least tried to address that(Coples, luring JT, bringing back Calvin Pace, etc), while Rob seems blissfully content to look the other way.

LaRon Landry suspended 4 games for PEDs. Brian Hartline apparently went nuts on Twitter retweeting numerous snarky comments in the 'you don't say?' vein.

Tell us how you really feel, Brian.
