Niners and Chargers are playing live on NFL network. As the backup, Rivers should play a lot. Man, I hope we'll be able to trade for this guy!

I'm not willing to trade for other team's backups anymore, no matter how talented they may seem. Jacobs in 06!

if we could get a good deal on phillip rivers then id want the dolphins to get him. A second round pick sounds reasonable. We shouldnt give up a 1st round pick though.

He'll cost a mid 1st rounder at the least.

He was a top-5 pick.

I would trade our first rounder for him. He is in the position like S.Young he is playing behind a proven Pro bowler that is why he aint starting. He will be in the league for 2 years he will be ready to play by next year. If we draft a qb we will have to wait another year or 2 for the the player to be ready.

Chargers will be asking more than just a 1st round pick for him. They would have to swallow a pretty big cap hit to trade Rivers so they are going to want substantial compensation for that. If they do decide to trade Rivers, my guess would be that they will want either a 1st and 3rd for him, or a 2nd PLUS a starting player to whom we have already paid a large signing bonus.

It would be one of the worst moves we could make & we'd be set back another 3 years.

If we are to get Rivers i hope we can push the trade this year so that he has this season to learn our system while he rides the pine... that way he is some what ready to impress next year

rivers is only backup cause bree's played lights out it's not that he doesnt have the talent :-(

Rivers is the back up because he lost the QB competition last year. He headed in with an early edge but Brees stepped up his game.

So after ONE good season Drew Brees is the same as Joe Montana?

never ending discussion and tell why would we be set back three years

Lets see. We'd have to trade two or three high round picks. Not exactly a good thing for an older team. There's Rivers' learning curve. Then our oline would have to clear big passing lanes & get familiar with his low release, which is about their shoulder level.

Ya just like you said he'd never go in round 1 on the old espn boards right bro? As I remember it you called him "a 3rd round talent".

Rivers = our next qb. Learn to love it Leinhart lover

He was a fricken rookie? think about it.... he got beat by a guy who playe dlkights out and made the pro-bowl it doesn't mean he isn't a awesome talent which I think he is!
