Is there a team projected to be ahead of us that could use Ricky Williams and either Vince Young or Brady Quinn would be available for us to trade up to get? How far up from #15 could we go if we threw in Ricky? I have felt for some time now that the main reason Ricky is getting so many carries is because Saban is featuring him for trade bait. Are there going to be any teams that draft before we do that could use Ricky Williams and would take a chance on trading down some to get him?

There are teams that could use a RB but whether they want Ricky is the question. Plus, Quinn or Young may not enter the draft. The only sure QB's coming out that are 1st round material are Leinart and Cutler. Cutler's a reach at our position and Leinart is way too high unless we trade up for him. Now Ricky, our 1st and some more for Leinart, I wouldn't mind seeing.

I dont think Ricky is going anywhere so forgetaboutit

When he came back, Ricky said he has about 2 years left in him. This is year one, I don't think there's many teams willing to take him given that statement and his history. Lets not forget why he returned....

Agreed, as long as more talent doesnt add up to any starters or key reserves.... I dont think its gonna happen. I wouldnt mind us moving down 3-4 spots, throwing in ricky picking up another 2 or a later round pick... and cutler....

This is part of the grand scheme. I believe you are 100% correct. Ricky is being showcased to show he can still play. He can and should be used to trade up and get a top notch QB. I'm loving the whole premise.

I remember that too. That always put a kink in my trade hopes, but who knows what Ricky might say in the coming weeks / months. He could change (or has already changed) his mind. The possible trade partners will be asking about that though, I'm sure.

I kind of like Ricky being here. The longer he is here the longer he is making Ronnie Brown's career last.

Ricky isn't worth anything more then a 4th and the team would be lucky to get it. There are far too many issues with Ricky for teams to take a chance (1 strike from a year suspension, his 'retirement', the contract which would come into play as the $8.6 million he owes the dolphins would not apply to another team). No 4th rounder or lower is going to move you up in the top half of the first.

The thing is we HAVE to let Ronnie break out at some time. What better time then now? Ricky is still relatively young and still in his prime. After this next season he will be pushing 30. If he has any trade value it is now. Someone may take a chance on him now but doubtful after next season.

I think there may be some team that would be willing to take Ricky and trade down some slots in the first round and still get a guy they really like on their draft chart. Are you saying that no team would trade down any spots at all to get Ricky Williams?

if some team would take it, then in a heartbeat I would do it

I personally think Ricky carries more value to us than to any other team! Besides, any trade up into the top tier would have to include additional picks in addition to this year's first and maybe another player thrown in. Our draft pick is going to be late teens, and I think Saban will sit tight and pick the best player available. There are ALOT of teams in the hunt for a QB (Jets, New Orleans, Arizona, Detroit, Oakland, Dallas, Washington), and most are picking before us. If the FA's take some of those teams out of the market, we have a chance. But I dont see Saban giving up picks to get a QB...especially with the aging defense and other needs we have.

We need a QB, no doubt. But we might have a shot at 16-19. Marino was picked at the end of the draft in 83.
