Does anyone know if wer'e switching to a full 3-4 next year or if we'll continue to run this hybrid stuff. I want to know this because it affects heavily who we'll draft and who we'll pick up in free agency as far as d-line and linebackers go.

all I know is with Capers aboard, we're even more far away from that solo 4-3 defense. As you said, the Free Agency and the draft will tell us much more than anyone what we are about to implement

but whatever, hybrid or plain 3-4, we have 2 defensive genius to take care of it

the hybrid style allows us to disguise our d thats y saban likes running it IMHO

I think we will continue to use a hybrid... it makes our defense much less predictable, and our current personel is pretty flexible to play both...

However, with Capers... I think we will be using a little more 3-4 than we did last year...

i think jason taylor is working very well in the hybrid and as long as we get that kind of production out of him it will be hard for the coaching staff to switch completely to a 3-4 bc jt is not a linebacker but can play it at times

For all intents and purposes, Miami is a 3-4 team that plays some 4-3 fronts, to quote Saban. I think Miami is going to end up playing more 3-4, but I doubt the personnel focus is going to change... We've been going for 3-4 players all along under Saban.

I think Miami used the 4-3 over/under defense more then Saban would have ideally liked to this season because of Jason Taylor's injury. His foot didnt allow him to change direction(drop into coverage) very well, so most of the time Miami would line up in fronts nearly identicle to a 3-4, but Taylor would be in a 3-point stance and virtually always rushing. Keith Traylor would still be over nose, Carter and Holliday would still be over the Tackle one side or the other, Seau/Spragan would still be lined up close to the line over the tight end, Crowder and Thomas would still be lined up over the Guard and all like in a 3-4, but technically you had 4 hands on the ground.

I dont think getting Dom Capers is going to be the reason as much as Jason Taylor being healthy, the veterans another year in the system, and another offseason to get players.

I dont think you can call it either. Its a defense based around the unique talents of Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas. Whatever defense it is isnt going to effect the players drafted...look at Matt Roth. He doesnt fit into the traditional mold of a 3-4 OLB or DE.

Very Well Said. I agree.

As Muck reminded us a while back, don't necessarily equate the arrival of Capers with more 3-4. He was very successful as DC in Jacksonville running a 4-3.

Oppositely I think who we draft will go a long way in determing what we use the most. We need a quality 3-4 NT, Traylor is good for another year I believe but after him we don't really have a man mountain to throw in there. Acouple more OLB's would be nice to, But I think BPA philosopy will determine what D we run.

we are definitely going to run many different formations, Capers will allow our D to further learn the 3-4 so we can run it more often if we want but we will run the 3-4 and the 4-3, we won't have a main D look which makes it harder to gameplan against

I agree. I am just jacked about having that brain trust to work with our guys. Can you imagine what Crowder is going to look like next year. One thing is for sure teams will definitely know they have played us.:rawk:

I like the 4-3, it has worked well for us in the past, but I hope that we run alittle more 3-4. It will beinteresting to see, I think that we will need at least one more good LB to run it well.
