I think many of us are or have been blinded by our own passion for our beloved team. However, after 20 some years as a fan I see our team for what it is Sub Par. We have some promising young players and some great veterans on the decline. Age catches up to us all. This team will be improved and better deciplined. I think when you look realisticly at our situation I think 7 or 8 wins would be a major accomplishment. The truth is the other teams in our division are better than us. I hear a alot talk around here about how everyone our division has lost more than they've gained. This is only marginally true if not misleading. The Patriots wont be the same team for sure, but this team is still filled with players who knows how to win, and they have a coach that knows how help them accomplish that. The jets lost a back up running back, key defender, and there are questions about Penningtons health. I think most of us want Penningtons injury to be worse than it is. He'll be fine and he'll be throwing balls to Coles. Incase you dont remember these guys have great chemistry, and oh yea a guy called Curtis Martin. Another fact you cant ignore is this team was one play away from the AFC championship. Finally, we have the hated Bills. I dont think there was hotter team down the stretch last year. They lost Bledsoe I say so what. Yea, they have some qb questions. There's no way their qb situation is worse than ours. Their entire organization and fans are excited about Losman. Which is more than I can say about anyone on our roster. Thier untimate success is in his hands. What if this guy is real deal. The bills could steal the division. I think we'll be better, but still bottom feeders, for now.

Optimism can't hurt you. And from what we already have going I don't think we will be "bottom feeders". As a team, we're only getting better.

I agree totally with the entire post. I am a huge fan but i am a realistic fan. I want the fins to win every sunday but i know when a team is too much for them. 7-8 wins would be great this year. It is a rebuilding year not a run to the superbowl year. Saban will take a couple of years to get the type of personnel he wants, then we can talk about playoffs. Until then i am going to enjoy watching young players develop into Hopefully probowlers. Conference and Division champs.

I dont think we'll win the division. But I dont think Buffalo will either. It's gonna be the Patsies again.

Geez let people be optimistic, there's nothing wrong with it. So what if someone is excited and thinks we're going 12-4, what does it matter? Let the "homers" get excited and live in happy make believe land, looking past the teams faults...while the "realists" sit around griping, complaining and get ulcers. :D

A very good, realistic post. We will be much improved and headed in the right direction, but we're still suffering from years of stupid moves, bad habits and useless personel and we happen to play in one of the toughest divisions.

I agree with this post...sorta.. Ive said it before and Ill say it again..the ONLY reason we dont win more than 8 games is because we are in the TOUGHEST division in football and our schedule no were near reflects our record from last year...It should be easy.. and its in the top 5 toughest for the year. This is a better than a 500 team and they will be FAR from bottom feeders unfortunatly the Record may only partially reflect this.

Wow, the NFL, and various cities and businesses are extremely thankful that you are in the minority.

Can you imagine 80,000 fans with your attitude in Tampa, Cincy, NY, Seattle, NE, etc a few years back? They teams would have went bankrupt because if I think my team sucks, I'm not wasting money on seats, merchandise, etc.

I sure bet there were plenty with the same attitude last year in SD, or that one year in Baltimore. That's why they play the game and fans root, because there's always hope and anything can happen on any given Sunday.

I dont recall anywhere that I wrote I wouldn't watch the games, support the team, or buy team gear. I'm going to watch every game and love the Dolphins whether we win 2 or 12 games. IMO we're not ready to compete yet.

OK, so Captain Lou is among the 2,000,000 other people who say we'll suck.

It's okay, we'll continue adding your kind to the pile of folks who have no faith. Call me a homer, or say I'm blinded by optimism, but it is what it is.

Every season brings new hope. Why can't we have some?

Like Captain Lou i am a fan and i wacth every game and I buy t-shirts and jerseys. but I am REALISTIC, If you watch every game thinking we are gonna win 35-0 you are either the biggest fan ever or you are dilusional. Because we are honest about the state the team is in doesn't make any of us more or less of a fin than anyone else.

New coach. New RB, PLUS Ricky's back. New QB, new impressive LT. We lost: Surtain and Bowens. We gained: an impressive young CB and LB, and two new explosive RBs.

We're not last year's team.

or the fact that they were 1 play from being eliminated be the Chargers the week before....OR the FACT that if the Bills didn't choke the salami week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers BACKUPS the Jests would have missed the playoffs completely!!

otherwise I agree. :)

What's the point of watching a crappy team? If there's no hope, no chance of winning, it would be too painful to watch. There'd be no point in cheering knowing they crappy sucky a$s team will fall flat on it's face and lose.

I'm just saying, then entire point of cheering, of rooting, of being a fan is holding out hope that your team finds a way to play better then everyone else. That they find a way to win. That they make fewer mistakes then the other guy. That they have a chance against the undefeated SB champs on a Monday night when they've only won 2 games. That's why. Because you never know.

I'm just saying, know reality, and then forget it when they take the field. We've always heard (and then believed) the fins were SB bound, then they folded the last 5 games. Now, we're hearing that the fins suck, and you're starting to believe it again.

I guess I'll be blind to the media and wait till the game is over to decide.

"The truth is the other teams in our division are better than us."

The truth is.......none of us really know what will happen. That is what is great about the NFL!! None of us know how they will or won't perform during the season.

You also indicated that most of us would want Pennington's injury to be more serious. I do not want Pennington to be injured....I want them to all be healthy, I hate winning when the other team is shorthanded. I want to beat them when they are healthy.

The only thing I can say for sure about this season is that our offense will not look inept, our defense will be more physical and exciting, and we will start to win close games again!! How many??? WHO KNOWS!!!
