our new 53 man roster for 2003...

I think Whitley will beat our Perry and he will be cut. Provost will make the team as the backup RT.

CK I thought we carry that many safeties. Bell will get a year of recovery and PS/ Europe play. We will have 10 DB with Lowe being the fifth CB and Bell, Wooden, and Gamble the backup safeties.

We may carry 10 OL.

Gamble and McGarahan

I don't know why people continue to put these two on the 53 man roster. They are good special teamers, but that's all they can do. They will never see the light of day in the base defense, and that means they are poor depth.

If Bell is ready to go, and Knight is signed, then there is no reason to keep those two because both Freeman and Bell can play special teams very well while being able to play the safety position. They will give us better depth.

We're getting to the point where if we are a legitimate superbowl contender, then we don't have guys on the team who are just special teamers.

KB, every team has special teamers like them. Gamble actually is decent in base defense. Not so sure about McGarrahan. But with the roster I put together, that gives us one nasty coverage unit. I would hate to be returning kicks for the Bills next year. Charlie Rogers got on the good side of things.

So little variation among these projected squads... this team is really gelling(sp?). First units may be determined relatively early, and thus will have plenty of time to get in synch in camp and preseason. (Remember having no certainty who'd be on O-line even going into final preseason games last year? Worked out okay, but we may be able to get it in focus earlier this year.)

Wouldn't mind seeing Seth challenge for long snapper, just to free a spot. Yes, Perry's great as a LS, but he contributes NOTHING else. Don't want to see Seth at guard unless absolutely necessary.

Lastly... if it's late in the season and we're making a run, I wanna bring Dan back as 3rd QB. Tan, rested and (used to be) ready. Give him a shot at a ring. Sorry, Sage. ;)

KB i really like you choice of Ayanbadejo...I really think he'll make the team...Seen him play numerous times and not a lot of people know much about him....

I'm really starting to like the way our team is shaping up...:D

wow, I just wanted to thnk everyone that reply to my post here. Is good to see that we'r4e into it already and looking forward to the season. I see that some of you have a few players making the team different than me and I respect every opinion. For the most part we all agree about 48 to 50 of the 53 and that tells me that we're pretty close on the way we feel. To KB, I knoe that Wanny and company care about special teams and that's why I have those 2 guys there.

About the rookies, Wanny said himself that he feel 6 of them will make the team and that's how many I have too. I can see why some of you think that one of the vets o-linemen would get cut(or maybe traded?) but untill I see that Nails is NOT ready to go, then I see the 6 vets in there plus 2 rookies.

We will carry 10 DB's and 5 WR's and one of those 5 will be the return guys. I saw some of you with as many as 7 wr's and that just will not happen cos we don't even use 4 most of the time. I think we better keep Tolver or we'll be sorry that we didn't.

Those are some points I wanted to make and again, thanks for your opinions guys. This is a great board.

Ozzy rules!!!!!!

The WR point is important. I was surprised to see some 4 WR formations late last year as I thought Turner didn't use them. Guess he likes to surprise everyone. Charlie Rogers should probably just be listed as KR next to the kickers as he could be used as a last resort WR or RB. Even the Fins are listing him as KR.

Do you guys really think Jenkins is going to make the team?? I can't see it unless he turns out to be a special teams demon.

Wannstedt is a defensive guy but maybe this year he drops a DE to add an extra OL?? Dixon's body is wearing out and Nails is coming back from a tough injury. Someone who can handle tackle and guard. Maybe Greg Jerman???

everything is posible. You made a good point about the o-line. We do have some players that could get hurt again so maybe we'll carry 9 o-linemen instead of 8.

As far as Crash Jenkins, he better make the team since we gave up 2 picks for him...lol
Actually, this guy can do it all and I'd be surprised if he doesn't make it.

As far as the wr's, Wanny even said that we'll be using no more that 3 WR's when we're in 3rd and long cos Turner likes to keep the TE and and sometimes even the FB. So 4 wr's plus the return guy(Rodgers or Baker) is enough imo.
