For those who know a thing or two about these guys, who do you think will win the starting nod come September?

Ryan Flinn?
Brandon Fields?

Brandon Fields i'd say, from what i have heard about him in college he has a pretty good leg. Who ever it is is gonna definitly earn his paycheck if our offense is gonna be anything like last year.

At camp Fields out kick Flinn by alot. Flinn shanked alot of punts.

Fields has a strong leg but tinkered with his mechanics his Junior year and hasn't fully recovered. We invested a draft pick in him though, so I assume he is our punter unless he just stinks up the joint.

Brandon Fields is 6'6" 235. So he is a pretty big boy. He has a long of 74 yards punting, but I am pretty sure that was on a roll. He doesn't place too many inside the 20 (career 27%) and supposedly takes a long time to get the ball off which could result in blocks. Also, he needs to improve his hangtime.

The good thing is, that I think he joined Michigan State as a linebacker or linemen, so he can tackle at least if it comes down to it.

:sidelol:
our previous punter was a pretty good tackler too, remember the hit against the bills (i believe)

Feilds is good at kickoffs, so I say he will . He has a much stronger leg than Flinn and with out Mare here we can use that leg on kick offs.

i dont think we used a draft pick on a punter for competition. i think fields is pretty much a lock to start

Neither - I hear Mark Royals (Royalshank) is going to get a good look - the reason we didn't resign Donnie Jones was because we missed a punter who was consistent - consistent at the 27 yard punt...

I don't have a number, but I was browsing this site earlier,
http://www.databasefootball.com/index.htm
, I'd say we got just as many gems with the later picks as we did with the early picks throughout team history.

In the modern NFL era, what's the % of players taken that have made any kind of impact (7th round only).

Anybody can point to players like Marques Colston and TJ Houshmandzadeh and claim "there's still a lot of value in the 7th round", but the fact is, they are few and far between. Of the 300+ players taken in the 7th round over the past 10 years, how many of those players spent atleast 3 years in the NFL?
