I have read a lot of threads about who should be our QB of the future, and some of you really like Vince Young. Something has always bothered me about the very fast athletic Michael Vick style QB's, and so I did a little research into Super Bowl winners, and discovered what it was.

Almost none of the S.B. winning qb's were a running style quarter back. Steve Young and John Elway could both run with the ball, and do it really well, however both those guys were very accurate pocket passers and only ran the ball when (mostly) protection broke down, or it was a designed call.

Guys like Vick and Young rely way to much on their athletic ability, and I have to wonder if it will ever get those guys over the top. It seems like it takes a bunch of years to get them to calm down enough to actually concentrate on being a passer first.

Marino never won a Super Bowl, but he played in one, and was a very successful QB in the playoffs. He was also the youngest QB to ever appear in a Super Bowl.

Take a look at the last ten years of Super Bowl winning qb's and you will see that the pocket passer, with a solid running game, and top ten defense has won the big show.

Brady three times, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner, John Elway twice, Brett Favre, and Troy Aikman.

We have the runners, our defense is getting younger and I think with Saban being a defensive coach, that side of the ball will improve next year and beyond.

So it comes down to the QB. I want a pocket passer...but let's discuss it.

It's pretty unfair to base that on history... it's a relatively new phenomena.

People are still learning how to use a quarterback like that.

And the BEST case is someone who can do both effectively. If Vick figures that out or if Young can do it... that will be something else.

There is certainly no negative to having that athletic ability... as long as you can throw it, too.

Agree. I don't subscribe to this myth that players like Vick are re-defining the QB position. At the end of the day a QB's primary job is to THROW the football and read a defense.

I agree 100% Vick can have 150 yards passing 0 throwing tds and 55 rushing yards1 rush td and he is the player of the week. He gets all the praise for his atheletic ability. I would much rather have a Brett Favre or Brad Johnson. Let the RBs do the running and the qb throwing and leading the team.

I don't think anyone can learn to use a QB like Vick, or Young, etc. There is no way to design a play for them. THey are more or less loose cannons on the football field. That style, at first looks fun, and will catch an NFL defense "napping", But once it's figured out (which it is) all the fun is over for the "athletic QBs" Sorry dudes, fun is over, GO HOME. Just what I think about.

im watchin the game right now and im likin vince young, i dunno if hes worth it or not but i do like him

We should be so lucky to have either Young or Vick...

People who live in Gus houses shouldn't throw stones...

What about McNair he did pretty well!!!!!!!!!!:dolphins::evil: If we traded up and got vince we would have a great rookie QB. Vince has heart and soul.

LMAO...oh that struck me funny.

We may not live in Gus's house anymore. For all we know, he could be cut anytime before or after the draft.

My point is about our Qb of the future.

I'd rather have a qb who is comfortable in the pocket but can run if needed then a qb who is comfortable scrambling and throwing when needed.

Looks like Vince young has a better arm than vick, and his athletic ability works when he has to have it, he looks accurate

You are right, McNair has done really well, and I have to wonder with our talent on offense, if he could win a Super Bowl?

Take a closer look. McNair became a better QB as he learned to throw the ball and run LESS.

As his rushing yardages decreased, his passing yards AND percentages increased.

Remember, "the devil is in the details".

Don't forget Donovan McNabb, who is a top QB in the NFL. Also watching Vince Young and he throws extremely well as runs amazing.
