Our own coach has openly stated that we wont know what we have until we see them playing with live bullets. It seems every week we try to figure out what direction the battle is going by one writer or another. We get happy when we hear what we want to hear and not so happy when we dont. It has been stated that its a three qb race so hopefully there is no bias from the staff and they choose the best qb for us this year. That being said we could very possible see all three qb's start at some point this year as it seem's doubtful that one qb will be so much better than the other 2 this year. So I would definately not read too much into any articles on any of the qb's at this point and try to make heads or tails of the position.

From the mouth of Sparano
At this point, although Sparano urged Saturday that this is a three-man race

''We'll have to see how the preseason goes and how these training camps get on,'' Sparano said.

From Lee Qb coach
But Lee also warned during this weekend's minicamp that anyone anticipating a starting quarterback to be named before training camp might be in for a longer wait than expected. That's because practices might matter -- but games matter more.
''I really believe this in my heart,'' Lee said. ``You evaluate a quarterback once he gets into a game when people in the stands are cursing at him and throwing ice at him and the Fox camera is running over his head in the huddle.
``That's when you evaluate the quarterback.''

All of the factors mentioned by Sparano and Lee are valid but you also have to take into consideration that the Phins' starting quarterback hasn't yet been released by Tampa Bay...

wow Chris simms lol

I know Garcia's not thrilled with his contract, but somehow I don't think he'll be ducking under Satelle come September.. though we can hope. Beyond him, I'll stick with what we have, thanks.

Hmmm...I'll assume this is a fishing expedition...

It's not news that Chris Simms is unhappy in Tampa and wants to be released. However, the Bucs have not given any sign of what they're going to do. And there has certainly been no indication whatsoever that the Dolphins would be interested in Simms.

So less "fishing expedition" and more "pure BS."

Edited to add:

But look at the bright side. At least the Dolphins aren't looking at a quarterback depth chart like the Raiders have:

QB: JaMarcus Russell, Andrew Walter, Marques Tuiasosopo

Ouch. Just ouch.

Thanks for keeping us grounded and well-informed. I mean, In my deluded state I was just sure I read in every report that Beck was to be named the starter as soon as Parcells came on board.

just reiterating what the coaches have said. no matter what horse you back too many people are trying to read th tealeaves.

I mean you would look at my statement and say okay cpt obvious but how often does someone try to speculate who is the starter based on a single column from a writer.

Also not once in my thread did I say anything personally about any qb but of course people always see what they want to when they read a thread.

Back to the reasoning behind the post, it seems every other day we get evidence why such and such will be the qb this year and nothing tangible has shown any one guy will or wont be our qb this year. For you Phin fan this may seem obvious but we are constantly hearing this in threads that this guy is favored to win the job and its all baseless at this point according to the coaches.

Yes...but when you have sunk 60 million for an untried rookie QB you really can't afford a good backup. Russell may end up being the best QB ever, but if he doesn't the Raiders are in deep, well...you know.

but you know everyone puts so much stock into who the starter in the preseason is..

BTW, I agree with the overall point of the thread. The coaches are doing a great job of keeping things "even" on the playing field. Evaluating each QB and such. I imagine it WILL take until PreSeason games to determine who the QB is, if the pattern continues.

There's an offchance that someone stands out significantly enough during TC that they're given the job prior. We'll see, though.

I have no problems with naming the starting QB until then, but who we have as our coaching staff and with you know who at the top, whoever is named the starter is going to have earned it.

While the point of this thread is not new (several people, some of whom support a specific QB, others who do not have said similar things) you are completely right. I am glad that, in this thread, a Beck supporter agreed with you and said as much.

I don't get why there is so much polarization on this issue. It's not like the Fiedler-Griese debate where there was a serious controversy over known commodities. Support who you will, but dlockz is right, there won't be any clarity on who is or should be the starter any time soon.

You'd be surprised. The majority of Beck supporters are more grounded in reality than one might assume.

Getting excited about a favorite player is ok. That's what a fan is (short for FANATIC). But not to the detriment of other players on the team.

As a former 8 year football player myself, I know what TEAM means. Even having what I feel is an "objective" opinion can still get lost in translation, just because I'm a fan. As it does with so many others.

But, you'd never find me calling someone "garbage" or "trash" or "finished." I'm a little more optimistic about things, even teammates that might not be my favorites.

Being positive has great effects. More people should try it. :D

I have seen egregious comments on both sides and I hope that people take a cue from you as to what it means to be a fan of a specific player while not bashing fans who disagree with you.
