:bobdole: What a complete disaster. No fire, no hustle, poor coaching, poor effort, no talent, mental errors, physical errors. Does that about sum it up? Why with 3 time outs left in the first half do we get the ball with over a minute to go, call a run, gain 7 or 8 yards, and NOT call a timeout, losing about 25 seconds? Then a short 2 yard pass for minimal gain?
Not that it would make a difference, because we were getting our a$$es whipped!
I wanted an experienced HC. Wasn't happy about the hiring of another inexperienced HC. I have warmed up to Gase , but after tonight's debacle, I have less hope. We are in for a LONG season.

I agree with you mostly. I do however, like Gase. This team has below average talent. Let's see how Gase does in 2 years.

Terrence Fede summed up the entire Dolphins performance in one play tonight. That was seriously the dumbest play I've seen in a long time. Like, wtf? Ryan played like ass, DB's played like ass, OL played like a **** covered ****sicle. LB's were ok and DL was average. Atleast they stopped the run for the most part.

Gase, I'm not too mad at. He can't execute out there for these guys.

The coaching really is rough and only because of course it's going to rough when you have such young inexperienced coaches running the team. Running a team on the highest level of the sport ain't easy. It was absurd so many people here assumed Gase would hit the ground running. You can't minimize the importance of experience. They're going to take their lumps until they figure it out. I like Gase but it's just way too much to lay on him and Vance right away. It's going to be a steep learning curve and the team may not survive it until they've properly cut their teeth. Not to mention so many coaches they chose to build their staff are complete hacks so where do they turn? It's a bad spot and they are being consistently out coached.

I don't think its absurd. Weren't we told that a new coach is worth an extra 1.5 wins just because he's fresh? Plus new coaches have instant success all the time. And its not like he has a rookie QB, or a journeyman off the street like a Fitzpatrick (who won ten games with a rookie coach). We were told that Tannehill would be elite with an average o-line and the freedom to audible. If thats true all the coach has to do is stay out of the way and make sure the defense does its part.

There have been some good things with Gase but the timeout management is one of the things that has been bad. Not that that wasted timeout mattered in the end, but it might have.

I know your post is meant as an indictment on Tannehill, but as far as that fresh coach bump. It can't be binary. Gase as youngest HC with only 2 years experience as a coordinator. That's very inexperienced. Sure someone like Tomlin worked out but it's rare and of course he had a vet super bowl calibre team to help him through any rough early patches. I guess it depends on how much weight you believe an HC carries for a team's success. Still the fact that Tannehill isn't succeeding with a QB whisperer directly in his ear is a brutal indictment on his ability as a player. I think that's why this is the last straw for so many fans towards Ryan.

Ugh that TO right out of halftime that resulted in a 3rd down sack was such a bad sign. Campbell was hammered last year for his TO usage. I guess the advantage of getting blown out is that Gase gets treated with a softer touch when it comes to time management.

I think many aspects of Gase's game management have been bad or puzzling, but I am also willing to give him some time to learn, grow, and improve.

More than anything, I want to see him change the losing culture.

It's interesting that everyone thought his strength coming in would be the scheme he brought but his real strength has been taking a hard line in instituting a new culture. I care far less about an individual call in the flow of a game then I do about him instituting a new work ethic based on accountability.

Another way to look at this is Gase did the big bully thing w tough talk - and the team responded - w 8 first downs. He may lose this team if he hasn't already.

Elite coaches carry a lot of weight. But there aren't many elite coaches, they are even more rare than elite QBs. And if Gase is going to be elite I think we'd know it already. You don't need an elite coach but if we're going to be a perennial contender we need either an elite coach, an elite QB or an elite GM.

Somehow, people convinced themselves that despite the results of last season and preseason...that somehow when the regular season hit...the Dolphins would magically be good. They even went out and got players like Maxwell and Williams who mirrored poor results last season and bad preseason who were going to magically turn it on when the season started.

Why do you like about Gase? What has he done that makes you think he can bring us a winner?
