I read last night that now MMQB and ESPN have us rated to win 3 games this year. Saw ESPN say that not only are we going to only win 6 games but we have the worst units in football in every unit review they do. I keep seeing Tannehill's name not even on the list of notable players returning from injury on GMF. In fact, the best rating I've seen that is anywhere Dolphins related is #14 best fans. I can't really suss out how I feel about that because I have only ever been a Dolphins fan though I feel we should be ranked #1 if everyone was a fan like those on here.

I grew up as a Phins fan. Been one since I was five years old. Grew my fandom each and every year. Patched holes in the wall caused by Fiedler's interceptions, Fluties escapability, and #12 in NE. Cheered myself hoarse over everything Marino, Zach, JT, Cox, Marion, Surtain, TBuck, Gadsden, OJ, Marks Brothers, and Landry did.

Regardless of my love for the Dolphins, we are not a highly regarded team anymore. When we do well, we "got lucky" and when we lose it was expected in the eyes of Joe NFL watcher. To most our primetime games last year merely galvanized anyone that isn't a true Dolphins fan that we are mediocre. Quite quickly it was forgotten that we were playing without Tannehill and our starting rooking MLB. Those deficiencies are viewed simply as excuses and the media paints us with a color of negativity. The perception of our team has to have at least partially penetrated the locker room.

Ok, to my point (had to set the stage). The Dolphins have an opportunity in 2018. A true opportunity to overcome perception and adversity. We have #17 back, we replaced Landry with Wilson and Amendola-bill (sound it out), and we have a potential circus freak in Gesicki. We drafted arguably the best defender in the draft in Fitzmagic, and bolstered the O-line while jettisoning the sadly hyper fragile version of Pouncey. Sure, it's late July before Training Camp but I see these all as great moves. The AFCE is ripe for the picking this year. We have rookie QBs in NYJ and BB and Brady is another year older in NE. THIS IS OUR BEST CHANCE TO WIN THE AFCE IN YEARS.

The Dolphins have the chance to be a truly great team this year bit it's going to come from a lot of luck, lack of injuries, and the 12th man at home. THe Dolphins fanbase has suffered from the losing seasons. In many areas of Florida outside Miami there aren't Dolphins fans to be found anywhere. Go to Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Vero, Melbourne, Fort Pierce any of those on a Dolphins Sunday. No Dolphins fans. Take a hard look at Hard Rock on any game day and you'll see almost as much and sometimes more jerseys of the away team. Even Publix is now the Bucs official grocery store. Noone wants to be a Dolphins fan any more. When I bring up that I'm a Dolphins fan, I have a fight ahead of me to even stay pertinent. Trust me that I totally don't care but the days that you can say I'm a Dolphins fan and get anything other than a look of pity from a fan of another team are here. THIS HAS TO END.

The team needs to know we are behind them. If you are going to Training Camp ( I am) then bring a buddy and try to get him to bring one too. Cheer, yell, bring supportive signs, do your part. We have a chance to help our team know how much we want to win and prove all the doubters wrong (I'm more about the winning). Get your friends to go to the games. Cheer and scream until you go hoarse. Compel your neighbors at the game to do the same.

As opposed to responding with the fact that you don't care how they are perceived blah blah blah, share with us how you are helping build the Dolphins fan base. How are you (besides spending money) supporting the team. Trust me, I get that the team has to do their part but I think if we can fan by fan energize the experience, we can jump start the winning ourselves. Don't be negative.

I commit to going to five home games, the scrimmage and at least two days of training Camp. What are you doing? And are you showing the passion? Go Phins!

Sounds like you have a plan to start the season off right. For those living down there, I hope a ton of fans show up during camp.
On GMF today, one of the guys said he picked Miami to be the surprise team this year. He mentioned Gase in his 3rd year, and how the team got cheated in 2017. He thinks 2018 will be a big turn around season.

I think you need to get out more. There are plenty of Dolphins fans in those areas and central FL, more so than any other team. Also, I am pretty sure Publix is still partnered with the Dolphins.

Just left a Publix in Naples. Bucs stuff everywhere and all kinds of marketing mentioning Publix is the official supermarket of the Bucs. So maybe you need to get out more. I travel a lot north of WPB through the middle of the state and down as far as Naples on the SW coast. Find me an official Dolphins sportsbar besides Bokampers. Find me some bars that have Dolphins jerseys pennants or other memorabillia hanging on their walls. There are none. None in SW Florida for certain.

Good! We should all show our fandom! We need to add to the fanbase!

Every place has a Pats jersey though that has anything NFL. Lots of Packers too.

Probably because the NFL has Naples ,SW FL zoned for Buccaneers marketing. All the Publix in Volusia County and surrounding counties have Jags advertising , as well as other stores but you rarely see Jags fans. Publix has been a staunch sponsor for the Dolphins for decades, I doubt that has changed. Every time I go down there they have Dolphins merch and ads in their stores. People post local Dolphins hangouts on here all the time, keep an eye out for those threads, which usually pop up when the season starts.

I don't want to start a RT thread, but when a QB comes fresh into the NFL and have success like Watson, Goff, Wentz; people overlook players like RT because after 6 years, he's been average. Not a lot of pundits will look at the arch or circumstances. They just look for the success. That's why we don't get any respect. They don't believe in our players/coaches.

They have 2 years to get their **** together. They I'm moving to Cape Coral and raising hell.

Down here in Broward I see Aqua and Orange all the time.

It's ****ing hot, and the Dolphins haven't been good. Didn't take long into the season to realize paying money to go see Cutler was a bad investment. Attendance doesn't equate to our fanship down here and I think that's why we get a bad rap.

That and the population of south florida is MONSTER - 5.76 million - which if it were it's own state - would make it the 20th most populated state in the country.

A LOT of those 5.76 million people, aren't from here. So we have a lot of outside fandom that waters down the perception of our own fanbase. Moreso than most other football areas.

You know, this really is not such a horrible thing....

1. If most everyone is underestimating you, there is little pressure to live up to.

2. This team actually believes in themselves, believe anything less then playoffs is a huge fail, these predictions have to be eating at players, who can't wait to get out there and prove themselves.

3. Opponants of Miami this year will have a hard time (at least early), not believing that Miami really could be a mess.

4. If Coaches really think this low of Miami, and it's players (there was another post, that Coach's and GMs thought Tannehill is around the 27th best QB), this means coaches already underestimating Miami...Hope Titans, Raiders, and Patriots are the biggest offenders.

Look at a map. Naples is far closer to the Dolphins HQ and Stadium than the Bucs. Look at all of the marketing maps. Naples is considered strong Dolphins territory yet no one in town is a Dolphins fan with very few and rare exceptions. All I'm saying is that there are multiple areas within 100 miles of Dolphins Stadium ( I refuse to adjust the stadium name every three years due to Owner's money grab) that do not seem Dolphins oriented if you base it just by going to local sportsbars and talking to patrons and bartenders and looking for merchandise. YES, I know that Miami Lauderdale, Keys and WPB are Dolphin centric. But it falls off a cliff as soon as you go outside of the Miami megalopolis.
