Ozzy,

What is your current assessment of the defensive backs? I am actually more concerned with that part of the team right now than the offensive line, and that is saying a lot.

I believe the recent signings of a corner and safety was just to put bodies on the field against Jacksonville, and can not be a serious look at competition. I don't like the Taylor or Buckley option right now, and I think there will be other db options when cuts begin. But this is a new system.

The Sentinel said Richard got burned frequently. I don't remember frequently. How do you appropriately assess his performance in that he participated in so little camp?

But with all the talk about corners I am actually very concerned about the safety position and someone rising to the occassion to be the defensive quarterback back there. Who is going to be that guy in your mind? Schulters? Bell? I have an idea that Jones may not make the team for some reason.

Thanks,

i'm obviously not Ozzy...

i think the CBs are very worrying... the play of Madison on Monday was poor and he's meant to be our #1 guy, we are severely lacking at CB... could all be different next year when Poole and Mitchell are back, and Daniels has a year of experience.

as for the safeties, Yeremiah Bell impressed me and I think Schulters will become the 'defensive QB' back there when he fully grasps the system. Tebucky Jones is really struggling with that hamstring, but he is in a serious camp battle with Bell now for that SS spot and atm I think he (Jones) wont be starting.

I am not Ozzy as well. But I think Bobby Taylor and Terrell Buckley would be great pickups, with acception of their age. They would be good fillers though, to play out a year or two in T-Buck's case, and Bobby could last a couple more than that. Meanwhile we could work on getting young blood in here to replace them.

Madison and Taylor at the CBs.
T-Buck at the Nickel.
Howard at the Dime.

Doesn't look all that bad.

Hopefully Shulters can step up and be the anchor of the D-backfield.

im not ozzy either but i think some young blood in this defense could be a key issue in the next year or two we do have a lot of vets on the team as a whole but sabans starting to bring in some youngins

Will the real ozzy please stand up?

I am not Ozzy however I think it is a little too early to be too worried about the secondary. Well the starting secondary at least. The system is decently complicated and you tend to look a step too slow when you are thinking rather than playing. If by the 3rd or 4th game there is no improvement then there is something HUGE to worry about. Also depth in the sense if Madison goes down miami is taking it in the pipe.

T. Tillman also didnt look to bad in the last game, I believe he had a couple of pretty nice pass breakups. Other than that though I think we could be in some trouble, but I think Sam will come around, most vets dont go real hard in preseason I personally dont think. Did Daniels play in the last game? I didnt ever see him mentioned, if he did play that is a good thing, cause that means he didnt get burned.

I think on the missed tackle Sam really wanted to lay into the quarterback.

I don't know what the hell he wanted to do, but it wasn't right. He didn't even make an effort. I could have at least hit the guy (whether or not I got laid on my back is for you to decide  ).

Looking at it, I didn't think he noticed. He was looking at the quarterback the entire time, running full speed right towards him. It was a 3rd and 10, an obvious passing situation.

He played and played pretty well from what I saw. I didnt hear about or see him get burned either... Daniels is gunna start the next game vs. the Jags... we will see how he does against 1st stringers...
