For those asking info on how Roth looks in Training Camp, there was this tidbit:

At Wednesday morning's workout, it might surprise you who I tended to find myself eyeing closely as a result of his speed and physical presence: Second-year defensive end Matt Roth.

Roth, who was playing with the first team because defensive end Jason Taylor watched practice from the sideline a day after he stopped early because of cramps, looked exceptional for nearly all of practice.

Blazing around the end on multiple plays, he probably would have had two sacks – one on Joey Harrington and another on Daunte Culpepper – if quarterbacks could be hit during practice.

Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who noticed. Defensive end Kevin Carter raved about Roth’s improvement and work ethic – and that’s coming from a been-around-the-block veteran who isn’t easy to win over. Coach Nick Saban also sounded pleased with his ability.

Roth said afterward he gained nearly 15 pounds in the off-season. It’s evident nearly all of the added weight appears to be muscle in his chest, arms and back. It will be interesting to see how he continues to progress, but keep an eye on Roth.

haha nice. Although last year Kevin Carter was pumpin up vickerson too. So either Kevin Carter just really loves what he sees, or he must not really be that hard to win over.

Great article... and actually informative!

Alex Marvez could learn a thing or 2...

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he's just one of those guys who likes to encourage hard workers, he wasn't very happy when they compared vickerson to manny wright.

Thanks. Roth is going to be the man IMO. Vick continues to be mentioned and nothing negative yet. That sucks about Daunte though.

man darlington is a pimp, i love his reports and he puts a lot of detail into em... good ****

I'm waiting for the "draft pick bust brigaders" to chime in pointing out that Roth is still a 2nd string DE to continue their Roth is a bust crap.

Never mind he's 2nd string behind J. Taylor and K. Carter.

Good news on Roth.
Hopefully he'll grow and play more of a role this year.

 Everyone was raving about KV and Roth this year. I see what you mean though KC is known to want to rip reporters heads off for comparing one teammate to someone who needed to grow up a little. That is why everyone says carter is a class guy.:shakeno:

Hats off to Darlington. He's certainly not mailing it in.

Agreed. Its nice to see a report that has some meat to it, and is actually well-written. You think it wouldn't be that difficult, but the other papers' writers kinda suck.

I hope Darlington sees how positive our responses are. I want him to keep those reports coming, as lengthy as possible. I try to drop him a comment on the blog every now and again. I'm really excited about Matt Roth.

No kidding, he's actually going to practice, watching, taking notes, and relaying the information to us... Its amazing waht some others pass off as journalism. Darlington rocks!
