Why do Parcells and Ireland believe this team needs a tall/ big WR. Often it is referred to as a possession WR.

What this team needs are great WRs. I don't care if they are 5'9" or 6'5". I mean if you are looking at measurables such as height you would take Wilford over Steve Smith or Sanatana Moss.

Peyton Manning has never had a physically dominant WR. R. Wayne was slightly bigger than Harrison but in no way would you consider R. Wayne a big bodied WR.

We need a true #1. Whether they come out of the mold of A. Johnson or Steve Smith it doesn't matter.

The Phins have 1 receiver on the roster at 6'5, hartline is 6'1, Cam is like 5'11 as is Ginn and bess is around 5'10 at best. not really busting in the height department.

I didn't mean that they wanted every receiver to be that big but it seems that is what they are looking for hence the Ernest Wilford and Patrick Turner experiments.

We spent a 3rd round pick on a receiver simply because he is tall. 3rd round picks don't always get a lot of playing time but with the receivers on this roster you would hope a pick that high could make some contributions

He'll get a shot eventually and we will know when his time comes. I don't know much about Patrick Turner but hopefully he can be a big red-zone target which is something this team needs.

Again, not every player makes an impact right away. This is especially true with WRs. Look at Vincent Jackson. He didn't get significant playing time until Keenan McCardell was gone. Now there is no one on here that wouldn't want him. Big WRs create a matchup problem that is very helpful. Can we please give Turner more than six games in his rookie season before calling him a bust? Being upset with Wilford was understandable as he was somewhat established, but Turner is a rookie. Give him time.

I doubt they drafted Turner "Simply because he was tall", i'm sure they saw more in him then just height. With that said having a big receiver that can go up and catch the ball in traffic is an advantage, especially for a young developing QB like Henne.

You bring up Peyton Manning as an example which really has no relevance to our team because WE DON'T HAVE A PEYTON MANNING (or anything close to a Peyton Manning caliber QB) The fact is we need physical receivers who will fight for the ball to help out our young QB when his passes are not right on the mark.

Ability to consistently catch the football no matter how pressure packed the situation is obviously the #1 factor. Gotta have that excellent hand-eye coordination, judge the velocity of the ball, body control, etc. The #2 factor is just having a knack for getting open and running your routes in a way that's best for the QB.

The rest of the factors like speed, quickness, and size are important and can give you a huge advantage over the DBs ... but, you can't use that athletic ability and size if you can't get the damn ball into your hands. If you are a GM, it's the smart move to draft the receiver with flypaper hands but less speed and size than the workout warriors at the combine. Probably the best receiver in NFL history, Jerry Rice, went to college at Mississippi Valley State and only ran a 4.6 second 40 on a good day.

A 6'4" 230 lb. chiseled Olympic sprinter ain't gonna do your team much good if he can't catch the freakin' ball and get open. You'd have a potential superstar if he could catch the ball though.

My problem with this FO looking for receivers is this seems to be a position they always try to find the diamond in the rough.

There are 32 teams in the NFL. Are there 32 #1 wide receivers in the league? I don't think so. It's like QB's their not easy to find, especially if you have other pressing needs to draft for(like an entire roster!). I have faith that eventually we will find an except-able WR... but it's not happening this year. Those picks have been spent, Quite well IMHO.

I liked the idea of getting a big receiver with a 3rd round pick. You may be lucky enough to get a starter but even a half decent player should be able to contribute. Having a big fast target split out wide who can get 15+ yds down the middle, make the catch and take the hit without spilling it is a real asset and it also gives you better chances in the red zone and a handy blocker downfield. David Martin did a great job for us last year and with him being out of contract soon and injury prone it looked a smart move especially when Martin got injured.

Could be a case of right type of pick, wrong player though. Turner looked a bit of a reach and not the type of player they usually go for given that he was an underachiever at USC and only really moved up the board in the pre-draft workouts

This team needs to find out what the NY Giants are doing to find and develop receivers.

Even Derek Hagan is looking decent over there.
