• Some Dolphins officials believe their safeties are better than Dallas'. Among the best battles in camp: Jason Allen (first-team snaps in May/June), Renaldo Hill (expects to be 100 percent after surgery to an anterior cruciate ligament) and former Falcons starter Chris Crocker vying to start opposite Yeremiah Bell. ''Jason has a lot of speed and I like what I see, as much as you can like in shorts and a T-shirt,'' secondary coach Todd Bowles said.

• Tight end Anthony Fasano, limited after shoulder surgery, said Bill Parcells dubbed him ''General Hospital'' and told him ''I should be wearing a hospital gown.'' But Fasano -- who said ''the Dolphins got a great deal'' by giving Dallas a fourth-rounder for him and Akin Ayodele -- expects to be ready by camp, and one veteran starter expects him to emerge over David Martin.

Thanks for the info! That comment..."expects to be" regarding Renaldo hill and Fasano is one that doesn't make me feel very comfortable as a Miami Dolphin fan though. Judging from the past, we've usually ended up on the downside of those expectations, but I do hope and feel that that our luck is about to change.

I feel that we finally have the right structure, plan, commitment and staff in place to at least give us the chance to be competitive and "Rise from these ashes"..

Personally, I'd just be happy if the coaching improved. I can wait for the talent, I just want us to be fundamentally sound again. I want to see players where there's supposed to be, making plays they're supposed to make because they're well coached, I want to see these guy's fighting till the last whistle. Making teams wish we weren't on their schedule.

i would love to see a safety backfield of Allen and Bell

with hill coming in as a nickel/dime corner or subbing in when one of our safeties are tired.

any update on Lehan's injury?
he was expected to push for a starting spot this year, am i correct?

If Allen can emerge, and Bell gets back to form our secondary could be tough. However, with our team its always if, if, if....... and the "if" never seems to happen.

damn finally someoen that understands sports and the game itself on this board. :hi5:

the reason to all the if's is becuase we keep expecting or are USED to seeing average players become overachievers and that just doenst happen often let alone about 48 of the ppl on the roster out of 53 which is what we have been going through for the past 5 years. when we had atcual BALLERS 10 yrs ago or 8 yrs ago not once did we put the if. the only if was in the o line and QB department along with WR. for the past 5 yrs its been almsot the entire roster.

tahts why 8 yrs ago we nevre won a ring cuz we had about 3 very important spots on a team dealing wiht "if" while our D was one of the best id seen. did neone ever say if to a defensive player? i can't recall. i rem even when we had a S that wasn't a usual starter next to brock, we nevre said IF he can perform cuz our D was so good whoevre u put in came in with results. what was his name? walker? that 1 yr or w/e he played very well for a no body but good players around u make u look good and help u perform well and cause what? 5 ints he had...FFs' etc.

what is nice this year is that it will be a player friendly scheme.... no complicated scheme like capers' and saban's ... and that just plays into Jason Allen's favor because he's a natural athlete who will make the plays when he's at the right place, the one big problem he had was figuring out where he had to be

i'm pretty excited about our DBs , especially the two allens

All the reason you should be excited about Jason Allen. There isn't a better safety in the league in terms of physical ability (size/speed ratio).
Hopefully the lightbulb goes on in his head. If it does, he is a pro bowler and and impact player.

There are if's involved in the offseasons of all teams.
If you are a Pats fans, are you excited about your secondary? I wouldn't be. You've got a slow Harrison with a young Merriweather (who isn't half the athlete Allen is). You've lost Samuel and Gay. Your best CB should be nicknamed "toast" (Hobbs). Yet, many of the so called experts have them returning to the SB based soley on their offense.
History shows us otherwie.
I'm not saying the Phins are in the same category as the Pats. I'm merely pointing out that their are questions in all TC's. Some teams (like the Phins) justifiably have more than others. That isn't a surprise, given all the offseason changes.

I mean you can look at the "Keep it simple stupid" philosophy in one of two ways. One way of looking at it is that it's going to help the players just go out there and play without the the need to really read and just react to what the offense is giving them. On the other hand keeping it too simple often leads to a scheme that is vanilla in nature and after time defenses adjust to these schemes leading to a lack of pressure on the QB and or the offense. Ask most fans in Dallas about Parcell's simplistic approach and the newer more complex approach that Wade Phillips used on the defense and they will tell you that Wade's more complex scheme was way more effective. I'm not saying that complexity is going to lead to victories but what i am saying is i hope the don't dumb the defense down to the point where it's vanilla. These are professional players after all and are paid to be able to digest the complexities of a playbook because it is thier job to do so.

Don't throw in the pat's secondary... if bellichick should have praise, it's to coach his defensive players very well.... he could take your mother and mine and pair them as starting cornerbacks in the superbowl

yeah but you have to do it progressively.... you don't throw in a complicated scheme right in trainning camp

wade phillips had a simple defence installed and handled by the players, he just modified the book a little

we have to start at the basics and then evolve in the scheme, when i played ball, we didn't start the season with zone blitzes, safety blitzes and rotate defences, we started off pretty basic and as the season went on our coach created blitzes accordingly to the next team we were playing
