Last Friday free agency kicked off and we saw big name players get signed for lucrative contracts such as Albert Haynesworth to Washington. Bart Scott to the Jets, and Jason Brown to the Rams. The Dolphins were interested in all of these players but there was no question that their price tag was way too rich for our blood. Parcells' philosophy is BUILD through the draft. Jason Brown is a very good center but is no where near what he got paid. The Dolphins handled free agency the right way. First, they took care of their own by locking up Channing Crowder, Yeremiah Bell, and Vernon Carey to very fair deals. They signed Gibril Wilson who is without question a major upgrade to Renaldo Hill; I would even argue that he is the best player in our secondary. We were quiet the first coueple of days, we watched teams over spend, and then we made a few moves. Joe Berger isn't going to be Steve Hutchinson but he provides solid depth at Guard and Center. He is without question an upgrade to to Andy Allemen and Ikechuku Ndukwe. We filled a major need and locked up Jake Grove to a five year deal. This guy is the type of player you need; a mean, nasty son of a b*tch who will block you, fight you, and kick your *** all day. Our offensive line is so young and impressive that it scarey. With Jake Long, Justin Smiley, Jake Grove, Donald Thomas, and Vernon Carey I expect us to have the youngest and most physical line in football. Ronnie Brown will find holes that were never there last year. Speaking of Ronnie Brown he is in a contract year and not spending crazy amounts of money on free agents with allow us to lock him up long term. Ronnie made his first trip to Hawaii and I thinkwe have just scratched the surface with this phenomenal football player. I think you will witness Ronnie Brown become a top 3 back in this league. We are not done yet, we are in full out bargain mode. We need a corner and I suspect Jabari Greer is in our sights. We have the April draft right around the corner; I fully expect the Dolphins to pull off a few trades to require Draft picks which could feature Samson Satele for a 3rd and John Beck for a 6th.

The Dolphins passing on Coles makes one thing clear for me... HAKEEM NICKS. What a dman fine football player this kid is. I think our April is going to look a bit like...

1-Hakeem Nicks-Wide Receiver-North Carolina

*When La. Coles became available from the Jets I thought we would be all over him but we passed; we passed on TJ Housmandzadeh. We obviously have our sights on someone in April and to me it's Hakeem nicks. Nicks likely will be on the board at #25 and I have him as the 2nd best receiver in the draft. Yes over Maclin and Heyward-Bey. Nicks ran a better forty time than projected and might just have the best hands in the enitre draft. He is a true #1 receiver and he will give us that firepower which Parcells said we lack. With Ginn, Bess,Camarillo, and London on board our YOUNG receiver core is looking very solid.

2A-Darius Butler-Cornerback-Connecticut

* Did you see this kid at the combine? The Dolphins are very keen on this kid and it's hard to imagine him lasting this long but with Sean Smith,Vontae Davis, Malcolm Jenkins, DJ Moore, and Alphonso Smith in this draft it is loaded with top level corner talent. Butler's technique is marvelous and he has the speed and cover ability to make an impact Day 1

2B-Cody Brown-Outside Linebacker-Connecticut

* I know for a fact the Dolphins love this kid and have had several sit-downs with him. He is one of those hybrid end-linebacker players who will translate to an Outside Linebacker in our defense. He excels as a pass rusher and is a solid fit for our defense.

3-Terrence Taylor-Nose Tackle-Michigan

*Scouts cooled on this guiy after a mediocre season at Michigan but after a very impressive combine he has himself heading up the charts again. The dolphins were impressed with size, speed, and strength and I think he is the Nose Tackle which we covet.

4-Cedric Peerman-Running Back-Virginia

*We have Ronny and Ricky so why do we need a Running Back? Ronnie is in his last year of his contract I do think we resign him but I do think this is Ricky's last year as a Dolphin. Patrick Cobbs is a good number 3 back but I aquestion his as a#2. Peerman is a beast who runs with power and speed.

5-Eric Vanderhevuel-Offensive Tackle-Wisconsin

*This guy has the makings of a Bill Parcell's football player. He is huge, strong, and will provide solid depth to our tackle positions

7A: Edwin Williams-Center-Maryland

*Samson Satele's days as a Dolphin are numbered. Grove is our starter and we signed Joe Berger for depth at Guard. I expect Satele to be traded for a 4th Round pick but we should see, Williams is severely under-rated and will be a solid starter in a few years.

7B: Kaluka Maiava-Linebacker-USC

* this guy is under the radar because he played with the likes of Rey Maualuga, Clay Matthews Jr, and Brian Cushing. I am impressed because despite USC haivng all of that talent, Maiva wasalways on the field.

7C: Lendy Holmes-Safety-Oklahoma

* We have our starters locked down but we need some depth and special teams ability. Holmes is a converted Receiver who is just a football player.

Rome was not built in a day and it is important we remeber the plan. Parcells will be gone after this year, no worries the plan is already designed and Jeff Ireland is more than capable to follow it. Let's let free agency and the draft play out before we flip out. The bottom line is that the Dolphins are better now than theyw ere when the Ravens beat them at home in the wild-card game.

Oh and I almost forgt about our best acquisition all off-season, Cameron Wake. This guy is going to take the NFL by storm. Youtube him and see what I mean. This kid is an athletic freak who rushes the passer as well as anyone in this draft. Cameron Wake will be a household name by next September.

I do think we'll draft a WR, I just don't think we are going to grab a WR with the 1st round pick. We currently have 4 young guys developing. That's enough. I see Miami being patient and waiting for a vet to become available later on. Remember, we got Chad basically when camp was over. Who knows who becomes available before the season actually starts?

I think we go CB with 1st rounder.

How many CFL players or stars have come into the League and made a impact? Moon and one of the Ismails? Point is....going against CFL talent doesn't exactly equate to NFL success. I hope he is solid. But I don't pretend to think that this guy will be a 'Star' by Sept.

Dubbz,

I guess there is where football knowledge and ability to scout players comes in. Kurt Warner came from the Arena league and you could argue he is the best passer of our decade. Talent comes from all over; a player from the CFL is more poised to make an impact than a player drafted right out of college. Do me a favor and watch some tape of Wake. The guy plays with a burst and has a first step that makes him very hard to block. His athletic ability is far greater than any linebacker on our roster right now. No matter what level you play on stats do not lie and this guy is the Demarcus Ware of the CFL. He will be very effective in our 3-4 defense; I will let the player proe it but I am not "pretending" anything. The bottom line is the kid can play football and has all the measurable to contribute and star in our 3-4 defense:rimshot:

Yes but for every one player that makes it big from the Cfl, Arena, NFL Europe or XFl there are a 100 that get cut in preseason.

Yes we did....

The Dolphins were interested in all of these players but there was no question that their price tag was way too rich for our blood.

I don't think Miami was interested in Hayneworth at all, and I highly doubt he was ever in our future plans prior to hitting the market....

I'm also pretty certain that Ireland knew very quickly that B. Scott was not going to be an option for us. Based on his close ties to Ryan {NY Jets}, and the fact that Ryan was at his house at midnight, we never had a chance. Scott had even made it known that he was going to sign with the Jets, so I highly doubt we even made an offer...

Parcells' philosophy is BUILD through the draft.

I believe his philosophy is to build through the draft, but that can't be all there is to it. I'm sure he know's the value of veteran leadership, and how important it is to use the FA market to make changes when needed and as he sees fit....

Jason Brown is a very good center but is no where near what he got paid.

But who's to say he doesn't improve, and then eventually end up being a top C in the league??... Would he be worth it then??...

The Dolphins handled free agency the right way.

I agree on certain levels, but in the end, I don't think they truly ended up doing / completing what they were hoping to...

I think they saw / heard some things happening prior to "opening night" in regards to Scott, and his devoted decision to follow Ryan, and that lead to the re-signing of Crowder...

I also think they were expecting C J. Brown to make a visit to Miami prior to writing up / signing his contract in St. Louis. I think both BP / JI wanted Brown very badly, and I think had he made a visit here, they would have given him his money. I personally think we lost out there, but hey, you can't have everything I guess...
'
First, they took care of their own by locking up Channing Crowder, Yeremiah Bell, and Vernon Carey to very fair deals.

I'm happy about that now, but I somewhat question the circumstances revolving around re-signing Crowder. I think Ireland really wanted Scott, but when he found out that Scott was hell bent on the Jets, he THEN decided to go ahead and retain Crowder. Maybe it's just me, but that's the feeling I came away with at that time...

Joe Berger isn't going to be Steve Hutchinson but he provides solid depth at Guard and Center. He is without question an upgrade to to Andy Allemen and Ikechuku Ndukwe.

I wouldn't rush to judge Berger either way right now. However, if his past is any indication of what the future holds, don't expect to see any Berger jersey's going on sale. Depth makes sense for him though....

We filled a major need and locked up Jake Grove to a five year deal. This guy is the type of player you need; a mean, nasty son of a b*tch who will block you, fight you, and kick your *** all day.

.....when he plays......

I guess after missing out on Brown, he was our only back-up option. The only thing I can hope at this stage is that he stays healthy, and turns out to be an upgrade over Satele. I don't have all that much confidence today, but I have faith that they know what they're doing here in making this addition....

IN TUNA WE TRUST....

Although I doubt that Parcells selects a WR at #25, I think the Jets will take Nicks at #17. I like rounds 2 and 3 that you mocked. I'd be very happy.

some good points on this thread......I also agree that we want a WR at some point but I doubt Bill takes 1 in round one....I think we're going LB at 25 and then maybe WR in round 2 along with a corner....NT in round 3.

Ozzy rules!!

Not a bad mock for us...A little too UConn heavy...their are corners I like better...that being said...I like some of the later picks a lot. Pearman sticks out.
