Parcells' way: Be fit, or else

As the New England Patriots coach before that, Parcells spotted one of his players passed out from an energy-sapping training camp test.
''When he wakes up,'' Parcells yelled at trainers, ``tell him I just cut him.''

hahahaha thats brilliant.

Lets just hope that our players aren't so worn down that they can't play by the time December rolls around!! Remember how Jimmy use to work the players hard? We would start off the season like gangbusters then our players would wear down every year.

Old school blood and guts training, I love the Tuna! We won't get beat because we're weak, coach BP will see that through...I'm getting very optomistic!

Which players on Miami have had a history of showing up to camp overwieght? Those would be players that have targets on their backs when camp comes around.

I remember Ronnie had an issue with weight one year and I'm not positive, but I think Channing Crowder had problems too.

Cam Cameron's approach was to show up fat and lazy. Take the offseason off so your well rested nearing the end of the season. I guess he never figured everyone would be on the Injury List due to his dumb*** approach.

Whip these guys in to shape, Bill!!

While I love the mentality of this coaching style (and even though Parcells is not officially the coach), I can't help thinking that this would be easier to swallow if Parcells wasn't such a "doughboy" (as in the "Pillsbury" type, not WWI soldier way).

When I hear that Parcells is so demanding regarding physical shape/discipline I'm always reminded of Jack Nicholson's line as Dr. Buddy Rydell in "Anger Management" (saying to a Buddist):

"He was wondering how a man weighing 600 pounds could teach people about self-discipline."

Last year was the year of the lazy training camp, the players looked worn out after the 1st half of almost every game. And they managed to eek out only one win. I say work them until they can't feel the pain anymore and let parcells sort out the weak ones early.

If you watch the America's Game 72' Fins you will hear about how Shula tried to kill everyone in practice and work the guys to death. Hard work pays off in the end.

It's a "Do as I say, not as I do" rule.

It's a "Do as I say, not as I do" rule.

I realize that.....that's why I say I love that type of mentality. It's just that I think while a player should not question a coach/boss on what he orders them to do, it would be a lot easier to accept the order (in their minds) to "get in shape, stay in shape " from a guy who was in shape and stayed in shape.

The military is based on "Do as I say" mentality, but what would you think of a Drill Instructor who was overweight & soft???? No doubt that while the soldiers would do as ordered, they would secretly resent or question/joke about how such an out of shape character could possibly tell them what to do when he himself does not practice what he preaches.

I know that I would respect someone more if they lived by the rule they ordered someone else to follow

actually parcells slimmed down. Did you not see recent photos?

BP is a walking contradiction, everything he preaches is the opposite of his own practices. Nevertheless his methods work. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Honestly I could care less what method he uses as long as we become a more competitive team.

First the military is a Lead from the front mentality. If you can't pass the standards you will not be leading for very long. Second this is pro Football, BP is gettting paid to think not run the 40. It is the players job to be in shape
or get fired. Also how old is BP isn't he 60 and you expect him you do a 4.5 40?

Sigh.....no that's not what I'm saying....I'm only saying that BP should be in shape comparable to his age and position of someone who insists that stamina, conditioning and discipline are important....If those qualities are so impotant then why doesn't he hold himself to that standard (again....comparable to others of his age who are in shape enough to project that they believe what they're promoting)????
