I'll admit that I'm far from understanding all the angles of this CBA problem the NFL is experiencing. In fact, I'd say I understand, maybe, 30% of it. Regardless, I understand the severity and I'm reading any and all news I find regarding it. Short and sweet, I care about this deal getting done.

With that said, was anyone else a little miffed at the opening in Pasquarelli's article on espn.com yesterday/today? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2348970

"Most fans couldn't care less about the collective bargaining agreement and, justifiable or not, view any discussions of negotiations aimed at extending labor peace through the 2013 season as just another example of the avaricious nature of already overpaid players. By Thursday, however, when the real-world ramifications of the failed labor talks become more apparent, fans in a lot of NFL precincts will take notice."

I don't know an NFL fan who isn't aware and/or concerned about the CBA. It seems to me that he's assuming that NFL fans are a bunch of ignorant sheep. I DON'T think that discussions of negotiations are an example of the 'avaricious nature of already overpaid athletes." They're professionals and the stars of the show... they should be compensated. The same can be said about the owners. Let's see Onterrio Smith run an NFL franchise..? The owners put their minds and money on the line, and they too should be compensated. That's why they have negotiations.... but ANYWAY...

My point is, Pasquarelli assumes we're all idiots and we won't even realize there's a CBA problem until our favorite player gets cut. This guy obviously hasn't spoken to an actual, living, breathing, ticket-paying, parking-paying fan in a long while. He's a condescending, ape son of an illegitimately conceived child... (can't say the b-word)

That said. Good article.

Writers often think they are clever by cutting someone else or a group of someones down. I'm sure there are NFL fans who don't have any idea what CBA is and why they are negotiating. But for those of us who are truly into the sport, they kind of guys who post on sites like this, we are informed not ignorant.

I have a different take.

I don't really take it as him thinking we are ignorant. More that we don't really care, and he is probably right. I love the Dolphins and the NFL, but in reality don't care to get involved with their labor disputes. People argue how they are the stars and deserve this and deserve that, I am more on the owners side and wish they would stand their ground more. The money being paid is just ridiculous and only getting worse. The NFL is at least the best pro leagues on this. The NBA is the worst . I can't remember the last NBA game I watched. A bunch of over paid underachievers! Don't get me wrong these athletes deserve to be compensated but to pay someone in a signing bonus what what people don't make in a lifetime is a system that is broken! Go strictly to incentive contracts and watch how hard these guys play.

Pasquarelli's is right the more I talk about this the less I will enjoy the game!!!!

I think we all care about it. Maybe just because of the show, but IMO 99% of the real fans are concern about this...

"Most fans" are not people who post messages on message boards. He's not talking about us.

Yeah most fans dont care that much, take a looka t Espn's latest sports poll. Something like 40 out of 50 states say they don't pay any attention to the labor issues.
