I'll admit that I'm far from understanding all the angles of this CBA problem the NFL is experiencing. In fact, I'd say I understand, maybe, 30% of it. Regardless, I understand the severity and I'm reading any and all news I find regarding it. Short and sweet, I care about this deal getting done.
With that said, was anyone else a little miffed at the opening in Pasquarelli's article on espn.com yesterday/today? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2348970
"Most fans couldn't care less about the collective bargaining agreement and, justifiable or not, view any discussions of negotiations aimed at extending labor peace through the 2013 season as just another example of the avaricious nature of already overpaid players. By Thursday, however, when the real-world ramifications of the failed labor talks become more apparent, fans in a lot of NFL precincts will take notice."
I don't know an NFL fan who isn't aware and/or concerned about the CBA. It seems to me that he's assuming that NFL fans are a bunch of ignorant sheep. I DON'T think that discussions of negotiations are an example of the 'avaricious nature of already overpaid athletes." They're professionals and the stars of the show... they should be compensated. The same can be said about the owners. Let's see Onterrio Smith run an NFL franchise..? The owners put their minds and money on the line, and they too should be compensated. That's why they have negotiations.... but ANYWAY...
My point is, Pasquarelli assumes we're all idiots and we won't even realize there's a CBA problem until our favorite player gets cut. This guy obviously hasn't spoken to an actual, living, breathing, ticket-paying, parking-paying fan in a long while. He's a condescending, ape son of an illegitimately conceived child... (can't say the b-word)
That said. Good article.
