i just made a post that made me really think about the defensive situation. The steelers secondary wasnt great, that have one great player in polamalu and average in townsend hope(both small fa signings). Its because of how great there pass rush is that makes their secondary much better.

A great pass rush and stopping the run creates pressure on the qb with less time to throw which results in more turnovers and the secondary playing much better. A great front 7 will cover up some problems in the secondary. Not vice versa. you can have the best secondary in the world but if there is no pass rush, eventually someone will be open or the qb can run.

This is why i would like bunkley, wimbley, or lawson. Bunkley would plug the middle for running plays and is a great 3rd down pass rusher up the middle. Lawson or wimbley would be our version of joey porter and would reak havoc on the qb helping our secondary out. With Taylor and another great pass rusher, along with carter crowder holliday and thomas, our front 7 would completely shut down the run and put pressure on the qb like no other. This would allow daniels, poole, allen, hill, and cooper to make more plays. They wouldn't get beat deep and wouldnt allow big plays if we hurry the quarterback. This is why we need to add another pass rusher to help out the defense as a whole.

He'd shut down the run, put pressure on the quarterback, and thus make the secondary much better. Our secondary will already be better if we select an de/olb first round and THEN we can add one later on. So draft the next Joey Porter, Terell Suggs, Demarcus Ware, Willie Mcginest, and you will maximize the performance of our defense with just one pick.

i said hope. hes average. the scouting report on him is hes slow and cant tackle. he was made better because of the pass rush and they couldnt show his flaws. the secondaries weakness is covered up by a great pass rush

Thats totally true, one pick and you optimize your defense, but you also need a bit of luck...

planet theory

you can all find so many big men in the world. check out this article on nfl.com.

he says bunkley top 8 pick. he would be a super 3-4 de. i also like claude wroten. lsu.

lets find a nose tackle, too. and dont say manny wright. thats ignorance. he's 6'6. that doesnt work. the height of casey hampton and vince wilfork. 6'1 and 6'2. jamal williams 6'3. wasnt our run d like 17 in the league. championships come from stopping the run.

true, but i feel that a pass rushing olb will immediately help all areas on defense. stopping the run, getting to the qb, and it helps out the secondary.

if we take a safety, we help our coverage but whitner williams and allen cant cover every receiver. they can shut down one guy and depending on the safety might be able to help on run support.

But you are also wrong in some way, you can have the best front 7 in the world, but if you dont have good players at the secondary, just one long pass for TD and you are toasted off for a while, depending on the cirumstances...

You don't need all the star players at DB, but if you have one playmaker and average the rest you will do fine even if you dont have many great at the front 7, again, you will need 1 or 2 playmakers and the rest of the front 7 could be average-good...

I think Bunkley is pretty much a sure shot. The luck we would need is for himt o be available at pcik 16. If not Im all for Jimmy Williams....Yes sir!!

thats not true. it is a known fact in football. if you give the quarterback too much time, SOMEONE WILL GET OPEN. whether a fb, te, or wr someone will 100% be open if you dont put pressure on the quarterback and give him all day to pass the ball. you can have 4 probowlers in the secondary, but if the front 7 cant put any pressure or good pressure on the quarterback your secondary is SCREWED. The wrs will just start running around in all different directions and the qb will take off and hit one of them or run. The front 7 is a lot more important than the secondary. its a fact. i know you can make an argument from the other side but you know you've seen examples of what im saying every week when a quarterback is just chillin behind the line practically standing there for 6-7 seconds and eventually guys get open. Thats not the case if taylor and ______(lawson, wimbley) is on top of them. :)

I got your point, but also if you have the best front 7 and imagine you give 3.5 seconds to the QB to throw the pass and your secondary is a crap, the other team's WR will overpass your DB and it will be a 100% TD, I wouldnt like to see that play like 5 - 7 times per game... (5 - 7 TD passes just because your secondary is a crap?)

But you are also right, the front 7 will have to be your strong point of your defense always!!!

yea you are right about having a dominant front 7 makes the secondary better.we have a very good front 7 right now

Yeah thats right, but having a strong secondary also makes the front 7 better...
