now, i didn't tape the game this week, so i'm just going off memory, so forgive me here... but...

biggest play of the game? i'll say Chad's completion on 3rd-and-12 on their drive that answered Miami's TD... the pass rush failed miserably there on a slow-developing pass play where he had about 5 seconds... in fact, there were many instances where Miami really should/could have let Chad have it.... and either pulled up, or allowed themselves to get chipped by RBs ... really disappointed we didn't exploit an area where the matchup was in our favor...

i recognize the blitzes, and the fact that our defense was on the field quite a bit through the middle-most of the game... but games like these, i really feel you need to rattle a struggling QB while he's down, even at the potential expense of an average secondary...

in the fourth, NYJ's running game was doing nothing, and they knew it... pass defenses were a certainty for play calling ... but where were our exotic blitzes? robber coverages at safety? presses at corner? i.e. RISKS!?!? ... i just felt Miami had momentum and really needed to come after Pennington on that game-sealing drive, or disguise some things in the secondary... seemed very vanilla at a very bad time... and it allowed them to chew lots of clock... i'd rather be down 17-7 and know it with 7 minutes left than be down 17-7 with 4 minutes left....

further, i saw a bit too much of Matt Roth late, and not enough Bowens! WHERE WAS DAVID BOWENS, an extra pass rusher in the crucial final quarter?... anyone?

ah well... the slightly better team won today, yes, but this one was ripe for the taking by the underdogs... i don't think any Jet fan can deny that...

Yep, the lack of a pass rush killed us today. And Gus's overthrows.

The answer is simple, basic football. At halftime the Jets had 21 rushing attempts to Miami's 9. I know because I had to chart the game for my job.

You're not going to rush the passer in the 4th quarter when the opposition has pounded you with that frequency. The team that runs the most times wins nearly 85% of the time in the NFL. Our game Sunday was a perfect example why that works. It's hardly a matter of the leading team piling up rushing attempts in the 4th quarter to sway that win stat. The physical nature of the running game often dictates which team has gas in the tank at the end. Contrary to popular belief, finesse short passing plays are not the equivalent of running plays. The running game is drive blocking and determines the pecking order of physical superiority. The passing game is ticklish, more of an annoyance than any lasting hurt.

I agree press coverage i was watching the game yelling why dont they blitz.:yell:

Chad had all the time in the world to make his high lob passes with not zip on them what so ever. Howard sucks and shouldnt be a starter on this team. I have seen that since the Bears preseason game.

Gus WAS not the problem. The Jets O-line was prepared for everything the Dolphins front 7 threw at them.
