I know most drafts are crap shoots, but does anyone out in Dolphins Land have 40 times for current RB "stars" in the league? What did LT run, Edgerrin, ect. What sparked this was Gil Brandt's comments about Benson's 40 time compared to Emmitt Smith. I want to know how the big 3 in this year's draft stack up. Thanks for your help!:)

Plus I want to see if (as I suspect) 40 times are overratted in choosing a RB.

this is how I found it...

go to google.com, type in the draft you're looking for, ex. 1999 NFL draft, then type cnnsi at the end, and it'll bring up cnnsi's draft report with the first result

1999 NFL draft cnnsi

Just out of curiosity...do we know which player (doesn't need to be a rb) that ammounted to something had the fastest 40 ever? What were other wowee standouts in the past?

Dan Alexander who was a nebraska TB ran 4.35 got drafted late and now is in arena ball. TJ Duckett ran a 4.37 at indy and he is terrible. The official Edge time in indy as not 4.45 he ran 4.51 and 4.54 twice. At a private work out on a track he ran a 4.45 for San Diego.

You sure Duckett ran a 4.37, I'm pretty sure he would have been a top 10 pick if he did that. I thought it was around a 4.5 give or take. I'm not too sure of Edge running in the 4.5's either, I could have swore he ran in the 4.4's.

i know jerome mathis this year WR from hampton ran a 4.32 i think which is the fastest in a few years

I'm pretty sure LT was 4.35. Times differ from site to site, you need to make sure for a fair comparsion you get them all from once souce, such as the combine.

Nope, there was a 4.29 this year from the corner from Nebraska.

theres a big difference between running on the track and running on the field with full equipment...guys like fabian washington ran a 4.25 but on the field with full pads hes probobly a 4.4 guy

Benson is much faster on the field trust me

I was actually going to start a topic on this after the benson pro day.

Anyways I did some research for some backs I could think of off the top of my head.

Edge - 4.51 http://www.jsonline.com/packer/stat/apr99/rb-james.asp

Barry Sanders - 4.37 http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/release.jsp?release_id=1206

Jamal Lewis - 4.39 (dont forget he put on pounds after and this was on a track he ran this) http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1208/is_18_224/ai_62052424

Trung Candidate was also at the above link, he ran a 4.25 and look how productive he has been. (yes I know size is a factor)

Priest Holmes - 4.72 http://forums.fspnet.com/index.php?showtopic=4444
This was posted on a chiefs forum.

Ricky Williams - 4.51 http://www.jsonline.com/packer/stat/apr99/rb-williams.asp

Emmitt Smith - sites have 4.6-4.7

Here is another note. Leroy Burell ran a 9.90 in the 100 metre dash. At the time it was the fastest in the world (1991). However, he ran a 4.5 in the 40 yard. Some even say that it is not physically possible to run faster than 4.40. I am not too sure how that works since we get sub 4.4 times all the time.

What's this obsession with forty times?

They have no pads on, get in a sprinters stance, no defenders running at them trying to burry them, etc...

40=useless. I want a football player. Just my crazy theory
