On NFL Radio, he commented about Brees visiting Miami first

he said that Condon should discuss with his client the possibility of just staying in Miami

that way they could come up with numbers to give to the Fins that would make Miami his first and last stop

its a wierd position to be in, we can close on this guy but we don't know if he can throw yet

we would have to have supreme confidence in doctors' reports

Be certain that he'll undergo rigorous and extended examination before a huge chunk of change is thrown his way.

Yea, medical exams and I'm sure clauses in his contract as well. Even so, we'll still be drafting a QB.

Yeah even if we sign Brees we should still draft a quarterback (Omar Jacobs)

you can pretty much count on a very incentive-laden contract with Brees. Even with that, I think we need at least 14 million guaranteed (maybe half of it in a signing bonus) to get him. But before anyone signs anything, we need to have our doctors examine him.

Who knows, after the Rivers incident would you be surprised if there was a clause in his contract that would show a statement of good faith and state that we wouldnt draft a QB above the 4th round in the next couple of years ... or wouldnt even draft a QB in the next couple of years at all.

I agree 100%. Omar Jacobs is one of those high-upside QBs that needs 2-3 years to adapt to the NFL. Having him as a 3rd-stringer would be ideal.

I doubt it, we sign a Gus type as a backup and develop Lemon.

I would hope that Saban and Mueller wouldn't do anything like that

I don't see anyway that Brees signs an incentive laden deal. Thats part of the reason he hasn't signed with SD. They were offering a contract laden with incentives. Plus, it wouldn't be smart for him and it would look dumb on his agents part, because as much as they try to say he'll be fine, the reality is that there is a chance it affects him alot. There will be a team out there that doesn't offer all the incentives in the contract, which we may have to watch out for.
