Isn't the whole point of the WC to be unpredictable? If so, trying to predict what role any guy will play, let alone Pat White is kinda impossible.
The way I see it is that Ronnie rarely threw from the formation last year. Most of the WC snaps handed to Ronnie were pre-determined run plays. If Pat were to take that role, forgetting the rolling to the right / throwing across the body thing for a while, he could be equally dangerous either passing or throwing. That's kind of an obvious thing to say I know but when you think about it, it's a huge weapon.
If Pat were to wait and see either/or how a rushing lane develops OR how open or clean a route had been run and choose the better option, it would pose massive problems. The obvious and most succesful way of stopping the WC, as desplayed by Baltimore last year was to put and extra man in the box. Now if Pat noticed than happening and had an open or single covered guy deep, he absolutely could make that throw. When Ronnie is in the same situation, teams are far more happy to put another guy up there knowing Ronnie would prefer to avoid letting go, red zone situations and flea flickers excepted.
So it's White versatility and the new question of how do you deal with a dual ground-air threat 5 seconds after the ball's snapped that forms the new wrinkle and the new weapon.
Wherever White fits in that scheme, it'll be different to where anyone fitted last year.
