Willis nearly won the defensive award a year ago, losing to Alabama's DeMeco Ryans by one vote. This time, the Ole Miss senior beat out Nelson after leading the conference with 137 tackles - 27 more than anyone else.

On another note, he is third in the nation in solo tackles with over 7 a game.

This goes to show how hard this guy plays in the most difficult conference in the nation. No one came close in total tackles in the SEC. He makes plays regardless of how poor a team on which he played. He'll hopefully get the Butkus award, too. We'll find out Saturday.

"In the 2007 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins first pick is: PATRICK WILLIS from the University of Mississippi........"

Great player, but Nelson is more of a game changer. :D

I hope he does win it because I think he is the best LB in the nation but I have this feeling that it might go to James Laurinaitis. He has been getting all the press this year plus he plays for Ohio State.

Can't believe he won the Nagurski.

Two totally different players at different positions on two VERY different teams. Personally, I would not be disappointed with either in the draft.....

he had a good year, but he was not one of the top 5 LBs in the country IMO. I think he got awarded for being the best LB on the best team.

I agree

How did the LB from Penn state do this year? I forgot his name but he was hyped up last year until he was injured.

Paul Posluszny is a finalist for the Butkus Award. I don't think he had a great year but he still made a lot of plays. Give him another year to recover from his knee injury and he should be back to his old form. Whomever drafts him will be getting one heckuva player.
