Patriots eyeing CFL sack leader

the cfl is getting more and more attention by nfl scouts ... i don't know why, that is, but it's a fact.

The colts have always been very active, recruiting in CIS (canada's ncaa) or CFL , they have a scout who devotes himself to the whole canadian football scene... (i don't remember his name, but when i did the U-19 football camp back in 2005, he was in attendance )

it's nothing new really... the thing is, as dolphin fans, we think we created that movement by signing wake last year, but really, signing CFL players has been common in the nfl since, jesus, it goes back to warren moon, doug flutie, etc. ...

to say they're copying is true, but then the same can be said about the fins ...

I somewhat agree with you but I think it's more common for NFL teams to go after offensive players from other leagues especially QB's, so I do think we (Phins) may have started a new trend in that sense. If you recall even when it came out last year that Parcells was looking at Wake all of a sudden there were 5 other teams also looking at him.

Them footballers is all over, some fall through the cracks, others is noticed.
How your Dolphins CFL'er sack leader doin'? A star there, middle of the road maybe here?

There was an article on TGG about the Jets looking at this guy too.

Huh? Why don't you get your facts straight.........he was ranked 4th in the league in QB pressures in his 1st season.....so yeah I think he's working out, but thanks for playing you'll be receiving a home version of the game as consolation gift.

profootballfocus.com also has Kerry Rhodes listed as the 2nd best safety in the league this year. I don't know how good Wake is or isn't, but I don't trust that site at all.

Well as a FinFan I watched every snap this year and it seemed like every time Wake was on the field he was putting pressure on the QB. Now with that said he needs to work on having a more well rounded game in order to take it to the next level. As far as just being a pass rusher (which is the reason he was brought here) the sky seems to be the limit.

Wake had like 167 snaps, 5.5 sacks, and 20 pressures. That means he gets pressure 12% of the time. While that seems bad, take a look at other pass rushers.

Calvin Pace, the jets best pass rusher:
642 snaps, 18 pressures.
3% of the time.

Demarcus Ware, considered by many the best pass rusher in the league: 976 snaps, 56 pressures. Thats about 6%.

I got the info from ProFootballFocus, and even if you don't trust them, this was not rankings, this was factual stats.

So yeah, wake is a one trick pony. But is the best pass rusher in the league, and i'll take that from a guy who we got for very cheap.

Also, if you wan't to say "oh well someone has to be better." then suggest me someone, and i'll compare the stats.

Again, not trying to take anything away from Wake, because I'm completely ignorant on how good he is. The sack numbers are what they are, but how do I trust that profootballfocus accurately records a "pressure" when they are listing Kerry Rhodes as the second best safety in football behind Ed Reed? Rhodes was the second best safety on the Jets in '09.

Also, while Pace may cause "pressure" 3% of the time he's on the field, how often is his job to cause pressure? Based on what you guys are saying, that's almost always Wakes job.
