Was thinking about free agency and how everyone talks about the Pats and how well they manage the salary cap. I got interested in looking at some of the salaries in the Pats contracts in 2005 vs. 2004 (got this off the Players Association site - nflpa.org):

Brady: +5.15 million more
Dillon: +3.25 million
Law: +2.85 million (his salary would be $8.75 mill, so I imagine he will be cut)
Colvin: +2.25 million
T. Brown: +1.74 million
Vrabel: +1.19 million

Total of these 6 players: +16.43 million

Total w/o Law: +13.58 million

In addition, Vinatieri is a free agent and I saw something in the last couple of days where they may use the franchise tag on him - that would probably be at least another million.

I've seen articles where there may be quite a bump in the cap next year due to how well the league is doing. Even with that bump, are the Pats in any trouble with the cap next year?

Somehow the Pats will get lady luck on their side and they will manage the cap next year. It always happens to teams every year.

Several of these guys will restructure their current deals to fit it in.

Ty Law is a goner. They can obviously win without him. That alone frees up millions

Vinatieri will be tagged if he doesn't sign before FA
