Was thinking about free agency and how everyone talks about the Pats and how well they manage the salary cap. I got interested in looking at some of the salaries in the Pats contracts in 2005 vs. 2004 (got this off the Players Association site - nflpa.org):
Brady: +5.15 million more
Dillon: +3.25 million
Law: +2.85 million (his salary would be $8.75 mill, so I imagine he will be cut)
Colvin: +2.25 million
T. Brown: +1.74 million
Vrabel: +1.19 million
Total of these 6 players: +16.43 million
Total w/o Law: +13.58 million
In addition, Vinatieri is a free agent and I saw something in the last couple of days where they may use the franchise tag on him - that would probably be at least another million.
I've seen articles where there may be quite a bump in the cap next year due to how well the league is doing. Even with that bump, are the Pats in any trouble with the cap next year?
