I'm kind of surprised NE didn't put an emphasis on adding extra defenders in coverage when they weren't getting any pressure rushing 4.
With that kc team the dump to the back is always there. Hell its the primary half the time even. That kind of space threat exposes lb levels that lack range and athleticism. If you drop more zone with statue lbs you give away easy dump yards at a 6 to 8 per clip to backs like a hunt or tyreek hill who is as much a threat as a receiver as he is lined up in the backfield. Especially when you know he can handle any contact you throw at him. And hill creates false steps at the lb level. Add in that kc move oline everyone's an athlete and you got a bad mix with slow non rangy meh athlete lbs period
I do think he's a good player, but just not as good as others and not worth that big contract. But NE has a history of finding guys who fit their schemes and felt he was worth it. I thought he played well last night at times. And is my point, at times he's good. But never consistently good.
KC is not loaded with talent on offense they have two good tight ends and 1 gadget type of wr. No alpha's at the wr positions at all.
They have Hill, Kelce, and now a promising rookie RB. We have Parker, Stills, Juice, Ajayai etc. Our "skill positions" are much better than theirs and our oline is probably similar.
Tyreek hill is a damn good player. That whole offense is gadget heavy anyways. Now that teams can't just take away kelce and shut kc down it takes that offense to another level. Miami will find out. Let us get a lb injury and it's curtains against that offense. They have no interest in playing you in base. It's nickel all day long. And miamis only starter deep at nickel Gilmore still lacks down to down consistency. Still some hiccups in his play but he shows #1 corner like stretches of play. Carried the top db grade for the pats yesterday
Easy to score 42 points when the other team has a weak pass rush. When Suh and the boys start rolling, we won't be a push over like NE was last night. We will have a better defense than NE this year, even with our "stank gym shorts" scheme lol.
The safeties screwed there from the get go. The pre snap leverage is all inside. If hill had just released and ran a vertical he would have run right by him without even taking the out first. Safety bust sure but either he goofed on the leverage or he was coached to sit inside early and vs that speed it's curtains on a clean release The widen out is only to give depth space against that safety but he still would have run right by him provided Alex smith looked him off early
If tyreek hill has your lb level taking false steps vs that athletic oline we are gonna be in trouble. You heard it here first.
That slot blitz is designed to force the ball out early which is why McCourty is playing that leverage and looking inside but the chiefs picked it up and it's over at that point Bit of a pickle for mccourty
Verticals against double stacks with all inside leverage and a safety on the opposite hash at depth are hard to defend. Real damn hard if you widen out after the release and you got a burner with a clean release
I knew the Pats D was being over-rated, it's gonna be a problem for them all year long... This is the year we have a shot, NE has owned this division for far too long.
Collins like Berry has the ability to play any safety role but he excels in short zones, he's not the hammer Harrison Smith is but he's good at that role as well.
Patricia had too many rotations with the safeties( maybe because of personnel), deep zones were horrible.
As long as TB is healthy, the Pats will always be the favorites, they (he) has earned that. You're right we have defensive problems too, but I would rather have the LB and secondary concerns that we may have, over the pure lack of talent up front the NE will have to deal with all year long. They better hope they can get Nink out of retirement, they need him, bad. We will have a better defense than NE this year, our scheme being this horrible thing is completely B.S and that idea will too be exposed like NE's D by seasons end. Nobody knows (except for a special few) but Burke may end up being just fine.
I was thinking earlier that the pats will bounce back and they always do but at the same time you have to think that maybe, just maybe, this is the year Brady starts to lose it? I mean he is 40 and last night at home was 16 for 36. When was the last time he missed on 20 passes in one game?.......do we have to believe that he'll win the super bowl in the next 5 or 6 years? I'm not counting him off but you'd think that at some point we'll see the end to his playing days as a star QB. Here's hoping last night was no fluke but rather the start of the end for him and the pats Ozzy rules!!
I worry about teams coming at us in base and exposing Maualuga in coverage than running downhill on us when Hull or nickel is in. Seems like an endless battle of exposure.
It will happen some, but Suh, Wake, Andre etc. will eat too like they did on that beautiful blitz vs. Philly in the preseason. NE simply doesn't have talent like that, which is why our defense is better. Offense though, yea I don't disrespect Tom, ever. He could win with high schoolers at WR.
The Pats front 7 depth is much less then last year. Slice it however you want. Losing Long, Ninkovich, and Rookie Rivers (just before the season), and then HIghtower in the game hurts. But in this game lots of their guys are fairly new to the team. They will get better, the questions is, how much. Reid does a great job making guys play every quarter of the field with motion and mismatches, it helped Smith took advantage of it last night. Pats Secondary is still very good but the D-line without good LBs behind it could suffer.
Also not everyone has Berry to shut down Gronk. I also think Gronk shook himself up on the non-TD diving play. He just didn't seem right after that. Hopefully teams can mimick, especially us with Jones, and make Brady hold the ball. No one was really gettting open. 3 receivers out and two new additions who are more about speed then they are about timing routes. Will be interesting to see what the morph into next.
Your trippin if you think our defense will be better than the Pats this year. Their scheme is so much better than ours, their secondary is better than ours, if Branch doesn't overachieve and If Harris doesn't show the ability to threaten the edge don't be surprised if we have our own pass rushing problems with Wake being 35.
