Pats place Rodney Harrison on PUP

patriotsinsider is reporting that rodney harrison and dan koppen have been

Players have to be placed on their team's PUP list before the first practice of training camp, but can be activated any time prior to the opening of the season. However, player is still on the list after 53-man rosters are finalized are not eligible to return to action until after the ninth week of the season.
I believe If a player starts traing camp healthy and gets hurt once in camp you can't then put them on the PUP list. Either they count as one of the 53 or they go to IR and are lost for the season. Those players who begin camp on PUP can still rehabilitate using team facilities and attend team meetings nad if they are not activated will begin the season on PUP and are out of action until week 9. They can begin to practice with the team 21 days prior to the week nine activation.

Neither of those players mentioned are ready now and at least in case of Harrison I think he'll begin the season on PUP. Those bad knee injuries are said to take 1 full year to rehab. Smart move by the Pats.
