what do you guys think of him? do any of you think/feel that he can&will build us an elite defense all around once we get the right players? or at best a respectable, but mediocre defense...i know he was the Cowboys LB Coach, and before that he was Syracuse's HC,but beyond that,i don't know...thoughts on him?...i ask because i can't wait until we have an elite&suffocating defense again, and i'm curious about him...

watched him here at SU .. to sum it up one heck of a football coach .. sucked as a recruiter

If you can stand by for a moment and take a harder look at our defense then you will know that we have a way to go as far as structuring the right group. Our defensive line needs a stronger presense at our nose tackle position. We have positions that need to be addressed such as free safety, cornerback to compliment Will Allen, and a solid Nickel.

With all that talent I think he has done a great job this season. We got rid of that safety picked up from Atlanta, and managed to fill in Math Roth for Charlie Anderson when he got injured. We just need to patch some positions through the draft and everything will come for us.

He seems to be a great Parcells coach.Serious and focused on the sideline just like the team is.

i certainly believe we'll acquire the right players at the NT,OLB,ILB,FS,&CB positions via FA or the draft, and i hope he can become our version of Rex Ryan or Dick LeBeau and build us an elite and suffocating defense that opposing teams will come to dread playing...

I agree w/Rick...he couldn't recruit at SU and that destroyed him. I'm an SU fan up here in NY and really wanted him fired but it was only because of his recruiting skills. Dude seemed to have a good football mind and was a workaholic that didn't have a life other than football. I for one am very happy we have him.

personally, i think he's solid but it wouldn't be difficult to upgrade the position imo.

Couldn't recruit?
Do the names Donovan McNabb, Keith Bulluck, Marvin Harrison, Dwight Freeney, Rob Konrad, Will Allen, Olindo Mare ring a bell.
Where Pasqualoni got screwed is that Michael Vick went back on his verbal commitment and it left the Orange without a decent QB.
Then add on Rutgers and UConn beating SU in NJ and Conn. where SU got a lot of good players.
The guy had 1 losing season in 14 years.
He can coach and if you look how Miami's D has progressed from Game 1 until now, you know he can.
Anyone forget that 3 game stretch without allowing a TD? I didn't see the Ravens or Steelers doing that this season.

As the years went by, the talent of his teams really waned. All those guys you mention were recruited in the 90's. In addition, 2 out of 3 of his 10 win seasons were in his first two years as head coach where he had many of Dick McPherson's players still. It's tough to recruit in the snow of syracuse and the rise of the programs you mention didn't help but recruiting is more than 1/2 the battle in college and he wasn't getting it done. That said, he looks like a recruiting genius relative to Greg Robinson.

His defensive playcalling seems EXTREMELY suspect at times. He also completely ruined the SU football program. If we go by what he has done in the past with SU, he needs good football players to succeed and cannot succeed with average players, can't coach them up. Once D-Nabb left SU, that program went to ****. He's a decent coach, but if his playcalling and packages do not get better, I dont want him here.

He's done REMARKABLY well with the mediocre talent he has in Miami. I'm thrilled with him so far.

It seems his playcalling is getting worse and worse as each game goes by. Very limited number of blitzes and stunts and has gotten no pressure on the QB in about the past 4 weeks

with BP and co.'s commitment to the 3-4 the pressure is really on Ireland to find players that fit the system.
