Paul Soliai

He needs to play more. Ferguson has slowed down. He was getting run over by Mangold on consecutive inside runs last Monday.. I was yelling at the TV to put Soliai in there because he can hold two blockers and not get pushed back as easily as Ferguson this year.

When Soliai went in there to replace him the D-line clearly looked more stout.

I would like to see Soliai getting more snaps to be honest.. Have Ferguson as the spot duty guy and not Soliai.

We better do it against the Saints because they can really run the ball. Putting Ferguson in there for 60+% of the plays will hurt us.

Ferguson is undersized and getting really old for a 3-4 NT, and it's showing. Soliai is 355 pounds and has stood his ground pretty well this year on the times he has been in.

I noticed that when Soliai is in there the DE's play better.. That's because the DE's have to compensate for Ferguson's lackluster play when he is in there. And facing more double teams.

Soliai gives more trouble to an O-line. And he helps our talented DE's play better. Making the D-line play better as a whole.

not related but look at ILB and SS,& FS rankings....tells you all you need to know about our current players at those positons....

I said something similar and almost got banned from the site haha.
I think with Fergy's old age he should be the one getting limited snaps. If they get a drive over 6 snaps on us you can see the inside of our line get pushed around a little more than usual. Soliai in my mind IS going to be the future NT here.

Taking nothing away from Fergy I just think him and Soliai should switch roles, but their might be a reason like Paul is not ready for that many snaps in a row

Great to see him starting to have an impact. Every position on our front 3 seems to have a great 1/2 that can rotate and still be very effective. In some cases, as you are pointing out, it's almost hard to tell who is the 1 and who is the 2 because everyone is really holding their own.

Now if we can get just get a little more creative when it comes to creating pressure. My lordy, where did Porter go? Jason Taylor was supposed to help create mismatches but it seems like he's actually taken the lead role for the LBs nowadays.

hopefuly he can be our answer for the future.. and even if he isnt great, he should be good enough..

is Terence Cody in the 1st round starting over soliai at NT
or Rolando Mcclain (who im watching right now, ESPN, he is like a QB on defense, calling out plays and reading the QB, truly amazing) over ayodele a bigger improvement? i do not want to have to draft a NT in the first unless we trade up for Suh or something..

at least that would solve both lines for us..

I'm worried that Suh might be a bit undersized for a NT - at least an ideal one.

McClain is looking good. If we could pick up a dominant ILB or dominant S, it'd go a long way.

i dont think we should draft a NT in the 1st... MLB or S, then MLB in the 2nd as well...

The best WR,ILB or TE in the 1st would be my pick. Miami should be able to find someone to play NT in FA or later in the draft. Hope Paul becomes the starter and new guy replaces Fergy.

look at the 3-4 DE rankings... Merling, Starks and Langford are all in the top 6.

Did anyone see the CB ratings, our rookies are Smith #13 and Davis #20. Not bad at all. Will Allen on the other hand is 52nd.

soliai has really stepped it up this year. his size, strength, and speed (yes i said speed) are ideal for the NT position. if he continues to play as good as he has we won't have to worry about a NT until later in the next draft.

ferg hasn't played badly this year though. he's had some nice stops in the backfield so far.

I love Soliai, and I wish Ferguson was younger so we could have a nice one-two punch at the position for years to come. My thinking is that when the off-season comes around, we go after a guy like Barry Cofield (NT for the Giants) on a nice deal. I think Cofield could bring a lot of the same things Ferguson does for us now. I think the key with Soliai is keeping him fresh and rotating him with another guy.

Soliai's progress has been the most under the radar, and the greatest news we can have.
Let's not forget that without a NT, our D is going to fall like a house of cards.
If Soliai can become what Ferguson was in his prime, it's going to be HUGE for us.
It's a pain in the *** trying to find a 3-4 NT.

i have not exactly analyzed these rankings or the formula, but how are jon beason and bradie james lower than crowder in mlb rankings?
