Heard Soliai is throwing people around like a rag doll in practice so far, including our rookie Center Pouncey (which is a bit of a concern to me but that's another thread).

Question would be do we sign this guy long term now or do we play him at the franchise salary this year and start negotiations with him sometime during the season when we know for sure that he's still playing at a high level and last year wasn't a fluke?

He came into camp in terrific shape for the first time in his career. He went out of his way to workout with Haloti Ngata this offseason AFTER he got that franchise tag. So he's a changed man and hungry. Jason Ferguson taught him well.

Pay the man and extend that contract right away so the dolphins can lower their cap number to sign another needed offensive playmaker in free agency with the savings.

Those are very good points. I'm a bit on the fence still but the fact that he came in and was in shape is a big sign. I think he wants to make sure people understand last year wasn't a fluke.

We should extend him, not only does it keep him with us longer and lower our cap number, but it shows other players we reward hard work.

Why are you concerned about Pouncey being thrown around by Paul.

Paul manhandled Nick Mangold last year. It was Pounceys first practice

I'd lock him up as soon as we can. Good NT's are so hard to come by.

Lock him up long term. If he hits the open market, I can guarantee he ends up earning a lot more than he would want from the Dolphins, especially if you assume he builds on last year's success. If he starts to dominate each game, his price tag only goes up. It's a risk you take -- as he could regress and then have a mega deal on the books -- but signs point to Solai being a changed man ready to play up to his true potential. I'd rather not wait until his stock moves even higher and he decides he's worth a lot more than he might think he's worth right now.

I hope that they are working with him to an extension done so we can make another move or two in FA.

Long term as it creates some cap space to work with.

Extend him right away. When he was tossing Nick Mangold like a rag doll last year on SNF, I was sold.

I wanted him extended after the 2009 season . . . came as no surprise as the improvements from year to year were obvious and last year it really just all came together for Paul. They should of got a deal done before FA . . . I know they wanted to lowball Paul, but now that he is in shape and literally tearing up practice, you gonna have to pay the man or reisk losing him. If the Fins plan on continuing to run this 3-4 . . . they better sign him longterm, because there is a good chance this guy makes the Pro Bowl this year.
