It's Only Happened ONCE!
The Dolphins’ blissful run of health and brawn on the offensive line is tenuous after a significant injury to starting left tackle Branden Albert.
Albert, a Pro Bowl pick last year and the cornerstone of their frontline, left Sunday’s win over San Diego after hurting his left wrist. He came back and did a reasonable job playing with a hard cast, but will need further medical examination to determine if he can keep going.
“Right now we’re going through the stages of having the hand specialist look at it just to make sure that no further damage can be done,” coach Adam Gase said at the team’s resort in Carlsbad. “There’s all these little steps you have to go through just to make sure we’re not hurting him for future or affecting his long-term career. We have to go through all those little steps to make sure that we handle everything the right way.”
The team’s emphasis is on Albert playing as many games as possible rather than jeopardizing his late-season availability merely to have him available Sunday at Los Angeles (4:05 p.m., FOX).
Albert was X-rayed during the game and said he did not break any bones. He was still wearing the cast Monday morning at the resort. Gase declined to confirm that there were not fractures, maintaining that the team has not ruled out any worst-case scenarios.
