The Dolphins need an injection of youthful defensive ends who can rush the passer and create tackles for loss.

Perhaps there is no greater Miami need on April 27, the first night of the NFL Draft.

In the past two seasons, Charles Harris posted 30.5 tackles for loss and 16 sacks.

At 6-feet-3, 253 pounds, and drawing comparisons to the Missouri defensive ends who preceded him (specifically Shane Ray, drafted 23rd overall by Denver in 2015) Harris boasts high upside.

“I got here by sacking the quarterback,” Harris said at the combine. “That’s not a secret. So I feel like most teams are gonna play me how I’m supposed to get played.

That’s me getting the quarterback.”

According to a scouting report by Pro Football Focus, Harris “has arguably the best spin move among pass-rushers in this draft class,” “had at least five pressures in eight of the 12 games he played in this year,” and was “consistently one of the nation’s top pass-rushers in two years as a starter.”

A scouting report by NFL.com notes Harris “explodes out of his stance in search of gap work vs. run game,” “has lateral quickness that makes it a challenge to reach him or cross his face for offensive linemen,” “has good first step quickness,” “plays with energy and keeps it cranked up until the whistle blows” and “can unleash spin counter in either direction.”

Your thoughts?.....:ponder:

If Reddick isn't there at 22.... My list is Charlton, Harris, and McKinley. That's it. I think Charles Harris will quickly become a double digit sack guy at the next level. His footwork is top notch as an edge rusher.

I like the guy personally but his combine was underwhelming which means he might be a 2nd rounder. The guy to look for is Jordan Willis. Good in run support which we are looking for. Very good combine numbers which typically translate into a top flight DE. JOFF can tell you more

I like Willis but I wouldn't take him before 54. Give me the gamer who underwhelms at the combine over the combine warrior. I know what Harris brings to the field against top competition

He does have experience playing the wide-9.

I remember a few years ago, we drafted a first round DE that had a great spin move but was terrible against the run

Harris tested in the bottom 10% of NFL rushers, if you put merit in the SPARQ rankings. Worse though, he fails to follow the football. I would pass altogether personally.

I've liked the kid since the first time I saw him. He was one of my guys from early point in the season. If he and Reddick are both there at 22 I look to move down 3-4 spots.

SPARQ ratings are even more inconsistent than PFF rankings

I would say SPARQ ratings are pretty cut and dry but it's the draft/player that is a gamble regardless. But I see what you're saying in that they are no more a predictor of NFL success than, for a lack of a better comparison at the moment, a coin flip.

PFF is a straight up joke.

Please don't fixate on the Combine figs. I can recall some of the "so-called" experts dismissing Jarvis Landry after his slow 40 at the Combine and that became our lucky day. Jeff Ireland fixated on Dion Jordan's Combine performance speed/size metrics and we gave up a 1st and 2nd Draft picks to get the worst highly drafted player in Dolphin history.
It is more important for our top player evaluators to accurately analyze Harris' actual performance in games to determine his correct value and place on the draft board.
