Pennington is not only our starter, the player-coach of our offense, he is an unheralded & unrecognized Franchise QB.
Penny is obviously at the top of his game & one of the best to captain a team in the NFL.

The first argument against Pennington is he has a weak arm, he can't go deep.
No one is going to argue he has a rocket arm. He does not. However, he has a deep pass when his shoulder is healed & he has to time to set his feet & throw. He can get it down field consistently.
How often do you go deep? 10%, probably closer to 5% of the time. If the the deep pass were the ticket, many QB's that went undrafted would be in the NFL today.
The game is about management & ball control. Accuracy in passing is the common denominator in judging QB's, not how far or hard they can throw the ball down field. You have to hit your target & move the chains. Griese's "best" completion percentage was 63% in 1978. Marino's "best" was 64.2% in 1984. Pennington's was 67.4% last season. Think about it.

The second wrap on Penny is his durability. Every QB faces injury, every time he takes the field.
Two things:
1) he's healthy, has the Orca-5 in front of him, the Tandem from Hell to burn up the turf, WildCaPat to buy more time, an improved WR Corp. All these things bode well for the Pennington Renaissance & his longevity in the sport.:hump:
2) Pennington is actually physically bigger than Henne. And he started a conditioning program, with his private trainer, to prepare for the 2009 season immediately after ending his play-off & championship performance.
By virtue of the miraculous 2008 season, Pennington has earned the right to compete for the big enchilada. Penny is our returning starter & will not go quietly into the night. He is a pro-bowl & franchise quality QB. Penny is a proven commodity, Henne is a virtual unknown at this level. Remember what happened to Beck & so many other promising QB's when the rubber hit the road.
Depending on this season, Pennington may very well prove to be our ticket to the SuperBowl in 2010.

The third negative that surfaces with Penny in any discussion of potential future play with Miami is his age. The Cardinals played in the last SuperBowl with a QB nearly 10 years Pennington's senior & Kurt Warner was resigned to play again this year, on what is arguably the best offensive team in the NFL. This is 2009 not 1947. Things change, including the paradigm & prototype of an NFL QB.
Go Fish!

Agreed but I am skeptical of how he performs this season just due to his on-off patterns. I do, though, have a lot of faith in him and I believe he deserves more credit than most give him.

coaching:
the coaching staff knows how to bring the best out in Penny
they go hand & hand
he is in fact an on-field coach for the offense & is lock step with the cadre

He is not unheralded or unrecognized.
I believe he is very exactly that: "unheralded & unrecognized " by the majority of Dolfans.
I base this in the incessant preoccupation of when Henne will assume the role of Franchise QB.
too much speculation on an unproven understudy when you have the RealDeal leading you to a Championship in the first year of a four year rebuilding project.

Just not enough love, respect & loyalty for Chad Pennington in Miami, after his heroic accomplishments with our beleaguered & fledgling team.

I believe after this season, Pennington will have definitively made his case & the spotlight will return where it belongs.
He will be heralded & recognized.
I think he will lead the team to the SuperBowl in 2010 & become the face of the "New Miami Dolphins" :D

Great post, I totally agree. The emphasis with the deep passes, however, are not for the big plays they can bring and that offenses should rely on them but the threat should be there, to keep defenses on their heels thus leaving more of an opportunity for the short game.

Friend lunchbox1126:
agreed.
1) Pennington has a consistent deep pass when healthy & provided time by his offensive line to set & throw the ball. The Orca-5 will provide this time & the resurgent running game will set it up. The threat will be there to keep defenses honest.
2) WildCatPat has the potential to create a co-system of offense (as opposed to a gimmick play). Now that we can pass or run effectively out of the WildCat, the defense will no longer be able to bring everyone forward to play the run. They'll have to stop WildCatPat legitimately. This could result in 20 to 30% of offensive game time, further keeping Pennington & the orthodox offense fresh on the field, as well as complicating considerably the life of opposing defenses.

It would be that much more difficult to focus on stopping Pennington.

He will be heralded & recognized, going on to lead the team to the SuperBowl in 2010

Your wrong. The reason people are looking toward Henne is because Sporano has said that we are not intrested in resigning Pennington after this year. You think he is going to lead us to a SB this season? That is why there is so much talk revolving around Henne. People are looking toward the future because Pennington is a lame duck. That is also why you see trade Pennington threads because we all understand something that you do not, Pennington is moving on without us. That does not mean he is unappriciated here it just means we all understand he is not going to our QB next season.

You mean Pennington's game is about management and ball control. The game is also about putting points on the board and Pennington has been okay at doing that. No team that Pennington has started atleast 10 games has averaged more than 22.4 points per game and Chad has thrown more than 20 touchdowns in a season only once.

Bill Parcells said on Sirius NFL Radio that Pennington is a very good leader and a very good game manager but is a little bit limiting from time to time in terms of taking a chance here or there.

his destiny in in his own hands
Parcells won't undo a winner
Pennington was drafted by Bill Parcells & in every way is a Parcells guy
Wouldn't sell him short
Pennington will not go quietly into the night

Friend Shula_Guy said: "Sporano has said that we are not intrested in resigning Pennington after this year." when & where did he say this? You mean to say the coach said we are definitively not resigning Pennington, no matter what happens, after this year? I haven't read that anywhere. Are you sure that statement is correct & in context.

Parcells has warned many times about what people say & what he does.
What if all things bode well for the Pennington Renaissance?
We won't resign him? I doubt that sincerely on every level.

Parcells has warned many times about what people say & what he does.
...and yet Bill Parcells has never coached Chad Pennington in any game on the field.

Pennington is our starter. If he has another season like last year, and it is very possible for all the reasons I indicated in the opening thread, he will be signed & starting again in 2010. The season holds the answers to these questions. My money is on the RealDeal, not the understudy. I believe Pennington will take us to a SuperBowl in 2010.

However, as long as we get to a SuperBowl...all is well.

I havent been this comfortable when our offense takes the field since.....well, since ol #13 was around....Hes our General!!

this is a complete statement, has a beginning & an end. it is a statistical fact.

the statement you quoted on Serius radio has context
of which I am not privy

the QB has to pass accurately & make the right decisions
the WR's have to do something with the ball after it is caught
the offensive line has to provide reasonable protection
touch-downs are a team effort that begin in the trenches
& end with someone crossing into the end zone:hi5:

first things first. penny is the best we have had since dan. he is a great leader and doesnt make mistakes. both proved to be good assets lat year. he was good for the young players last year.

that being said there is a reason why the jets couldnt wait to get rid of him. it wasnt just farve they were also pushing kellon ahead of him to.
they realized that you can only go so far with him.

everyone is looking for a playmaker at qb. penny is a game manager. he wont lose the game for you (unless you balt) but he wont win it fot you either.
