just keep him away from the cheer leaders!! :chuckle:

i dont really know what it would really do for the team overall. these youngsters were not even alive when marino was playing, most of them anyways, and it will not impact them with any "wow" factor as it would have 15 years back. they have heard his name but he is just some old dude from a team that 98% of them didnt really like or follow. remember, we havnt been anything of real note in a couple decades now. [god that hurts to even type that].

but, its true. us geezers who were there for every snap of dannys career will have a bit of fun with it but what really would it do for the team? he already has been out signing autographs at sports shows and dolphin alum appearances but he doesnt need to be on the finz staff to do that. as i said, he isnt much of a recruiting tool in this day and age. he is just that old tv dude to the 20 year olds.

i would like to see what he has got as a qb coach. but, we have one and hickey isn't bringing in that guy and saying, "yeah, well, dont know if you heard yet, but we got danny marino now. here's a nice check for ya. you understand, right?"

the only thing i can think of is letting him hang around the office and watch film and see how he does at talent eval. get his foot in the door. then if things go this way or that, he can move up in the assistant gm type roll like hickey did or get him on the field helping the passing game, working with the o/c.

there is no big splash with any of it though. i really would like to see him as our qb coach some day and maybe even the o/c if he has the knack for coaching as i think he just may have.

oh, and dont let him invest money in the team either. bad ju-ju!!

Take a hint Dan, they don't want you making football decisions.

I wouldn't be opposed to him being QB coach but i don't think he would make a good coach he would be like dammit why can't you do what i can do. The greats never make good coaches because they can't understand someone with more limitations then they have or had

Find a meaningful way to get the man involved. He is one of the faces of the franchise and despite some imperfections in personality and personally, he is one of the greatest Dolphins ever. I'm sure they can figure something out.

It would be wise for him to work his way slowly over time to a bigger role. However from his standpoint he probably wants to be involved quicker so he can enjoy it while he has the health to do it. Don't see him doing football work in his 70's.

Lol, you guys dont think Marino would be a better QB coach than Sherman's son in law? Marino has probably forgot more about defensive recognition pre snap and how to exploit it than that kid will ever know. My guess is this coaching staff probably doesn't want him on the staff because it would undermine their authority. You guys are fooling yourselves if you dont think the younger players would look up to him.

As far as talent evaluation, I would definitely say he isn't ready for a role like that.

Take a hint Ross, Marino doesn't want to just let you borrow his credibility while you blunder your way into another mediocre season.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alonzo_Mourning#Retirement

Mourning announced his return to the Heat in late June 2009; he holds the position of Vice President of Player Programs and Development, which covers community outreach and mentoring young players

I'd like to see Marino in that kind of role.
Great for PR, great for the players to have someone to go for advice.

It's kind of weird they're looking to create a position for him that currently doesn't exist.....at least to me.

Don't be too quick to dismiss Zach Taylor as just someone who got the QB coaching gig because he is married to Mike Sherman's daughter. The feedback is that he is good at developing Tannehill, who clearly improved in year 2 even with the O-line disaster. We will know pretty soon if Lazor thinks he has something or not. Taylor apparently seriously aspires to be a Head Coach in the NFL (and we laughed when we heard Jason Garrett had the same goal when he was QB Coach years ago).
While Dan Marino looks at John Elway and sees the immediate success he has had in fixing many problems in Denver, it doesn't mean that Dan would be a similar success here in Miami. Rarely does talent on the field translate to success as a GM in any sport.

Those sort of things happen when you become an icon. It's a matter of showing some respect to a very great man. Billionaire owners can do that.

why? why dont "they" and some of the fans not want him making ANY football decisions?

was dan on a staff evaluating talent somewhere that i didnt hear about and he bombed?

if not, then where is the book on dan that that shows he should absolutely never be making ANY football decisions? what is everyone basing this off of?

NOTE ON ELWAY AND BRONCOS: when he came in, he had a top flight talent guy helping him get his feet wet and handing him some GREAT talent evals. everyone is acting like elway is this super smart, one of a kind successful player to GM type that "NEVER" happens and the facts are FAR from that. what are the broncs without PEYTON MANNING? he got lucky their and it helped a lot they are great pals. sometimes you have to have some real luck to get to the top ala billichek with tom brady. elway becomes the broncs gm and his good pal peyton manning just happens to become a free agent at the same time. LUCK!!! the team he took over is already LOADED with talent thanks to a couple of previous guys who brought them in.

so, elway didnt walk into a 3-13 team that hadn't won anything important in over 20 years [like us] and waved his magic wand and the team was suddenly all world. he had a loaded team, good, seasoned talent evaluators showing him the ropes and gifting him another bucket of talent and pre made draft. he pulled the handled and lined up 7's!! PICTURE ELWAY taking over the dolphins after ireland. he isnt getting a pre made team loaded with talent. peyton manning isnt coming in, he would have tanny [who is absolutely not even in the same breath as manning]. JOHN ELWAY becomes another "couldnt make the change" from player to front office. another failed "name".

but, you cant fault elway. the guy has had a knack of being in the right place at the right time his whole career. his nfl gig is almost over and no championship win. and they get lucky with a late round TERRELL DAVIS! bada bing!! 2 trophies and then off to retirement and to selling cars which almost instantly turns into one of the top dealerships in the state.

JOHN ELWAY should NEVER be held as the golden standard for jock to front office. he had way to much going on already before he got there and landed peyton manning BECAUSE the team already had the pieces in place before elway came along.

i would love to see DANNY in the offensive staff. starting out as an assistant to the o/c, offensive quality control, helping break down tape of opponents [think danny couldnt handle that?] and then work his way up to qb coach and then MAYBE, IF HE IS STILL RISING, on to o/c. i can see that with NO homer goggles on.

but, i dont see philbins godson being relieved of his qb coach gig any time soon. i dont see that kid being comfortable with dan marino ANYWHERE NEAR the offensive staff, in the tape room, meeting room or practices. he would look kind of silly on the practice field telling tanny how to throw with the best who ever did it standing next to him.

so i see the head scratcher in the front office right now working in danny. dan doesnt want any on paper only/wayne huiznega style name only gig. he is dolphins PR all the time. he attends a lot of dolphins functions, charity events, autograph signings, etc.... and doesnt need a finz staff job to do it. IF danny has any chance of success right now with a finz gig its something for on the field. you give him a quality control [offense] gig where he kinda free lances, watches tape, breaks down opponents, etc.. and out of site from the qb coach. danny working in the shadows in his own back room office and being PRODUCTIVE and VALUABLE and not in the site of qb coach taylor brusing his ego.

danny turns in his work to lazor who works in what danny did into the game plan. and the players and taylor are non the wiser as who came up with what!!
