So the seasons change and new champions are born. Congrats to the Giants (I love the giants now lol). So I wanted to post this thread to point out an obvious mistake on Roger Goodell's part, he sends this message out on the loudspeaker...

If you cheat in the NFL you'll get fined, forfeit your 1st draft pick but you'll still be declared the winner of the game.

but yet...

If you cheat in school you get a F.

The Pats should have started their season 0-1. I'm so happy the Pats didn't win the Super Bowl. I guess cheaters really don't ever prosper. =)

Am I the only one that thinks Pats should have started 0-1?

I had no problem with what happened. I thought maybe another pick, but I'm fine with what Goodell dished out for Sygate 1

If Spygate 2 is actually true and it turns out they taped the Rams final wlakthru before that SB, should they be stripped of that championship as well? I say a resounding "YES"!

I agree. They should have been penalized a win. If the cheating helped them win a game, then the punishment should have been in kind. The fine was just chump-change to them anyways.

I just want to see them fall and fall hard lol. As far as receiving a loss or taking the Superbowls away from them I think not. I just want see some more controversy and a pats fall out.

Even though I hate the Jets, a forfeit by the Pats to the Jets would have been appropriate. I also hope Belichick gets a year vacation (unpaid) if anything more comes out about videotaping the Ram's walk through or other incidents.

They had a Perfect Regular season. I dont think they deserve a loss against the jets. While they had a perfect regular season it means NOTHING without the superbowl ring. to me the pats remind me of the yankees. They where the team to beat. No one thought they could lose a championship, then in 2001 they lost to the dimondbacks and they started their slump. I think the pats are about to start their slump!

If they find anymore evidence of cheating, Bellicheater should be banned from the nfl.
Also draft picks and salary cap restrictions.
Not sure about superbowls? But I am open to the idea.

Cheaters Get Rewarded By Goodell!!!

My problem with the GOODELL punishment is he knew the Patriots had acquired another draft pick in the upcoming 2008 NFL draft via the 49ers. I believe he should have taken away the higher pick(49ers), which in this case would have been the 7th pick this year. C'mon punishment would be felt if they took away that 7th pick instead of 31st. Now you are talking about the team that was in the Super bowl, got caught cheating, and now will get an impact player at 7th in the first round!!!Helping out his buddy Robert Kraft. I think that's an under statement!!:shakeno:

I totally agree with KippyIA1354, The league should have taken away their higher pick. That wasn't enough punishment for a cheater team, or bellichick's* ethics.

Money and a 31st pick??:err: C'mon, they can afford that.

I agree. They should have been penalized a win. If the cheating helped them win a game, then the punishment should have been in kind. The fine was just chump-change to them anyways.

If the cheating helped them win a game,

That one line answers the question. The jets tape was confiscated at end of the first half, it was never seen by Belichick of any of the other coaches so nothing illegally video taped could have been used to gain an advantage. The act of video taping was breaking the rules and using that tape to gain an unfair advantage would have been cheating. In the same instance there should be some evidence/proof that any illegal tape caused an unfair advantage. The fact that you broke the video tape rule doesn't prove diddly about what its use was or even if it was ever used at all.
Also where do you draw the pre 07 limit? 2 yrs 5 yrs and if someone else drags out proof of another team breaking the rules in the past should they also be open to investigation? What about Jimmy Johnson and his personal admittal which amounts to a plea of guilty? Shouldn't we also open an investigation into all things Jimmy Johnson? Maybe we can get Arlen Specter to investigate back to 1960 and really get to the bottom of all this? Wouldn't that be a king size pissing match.
My point is Goodell doesn't want to drag this out its not good for the league or the $$$ machine especially where he already stated he (the league) has known this has been going on league wide for years. He wants it over and put to rest.

The fine (3/4 of a mill) ...plus the loss of any first rd pick wasn't exactly "chump change" as you say. Any 1st round pick is a high price to pay even the 31st. I think for what the commisioner had it was enough.
