I've been reading posts here on Finheaven for over a decade, I don't post that often but always enjoy this site and the insights I can gain from here. One thing that has remained, and will always remain, constant in this forum is that every single poster sees the game from their own perspective. I respect opinions because they come from someone who sees the team/game in a perspective that helps me better understand my own view. Sometimes this entrenches my own view deeper, and sometimes I change how I am perceiving things. Having said this, let me give you my perspective heading into this season.

1) We have gone through SIGNIFICANT change in the past year once again...and yes this gets tiring!
2) With this change in coach/staff/personnel comes a time of adjustment and growing that is always challenging.
3) Our first 2 games of the season were set to be arguably the 2 most difficult games that any team can possibly play... @ Seattle and @ New England
4) we came into the season with major question marks at CB and LB and we were relatively uncertain about our O-line also

With all of the above, I was anticipating an 0-2 start (hoping for better but not expecting it). Not only this, but I would have guessed losses by 10+ points in both of those contests.

So, from my perspective, we actually are doing better than I had anticipated. The manner in which we lost both of these games completely sucks! We could have (maybe even should have) won the Seattle game...in the most difficult environment in the NFL. And then the team managed to somehow rally themselves from a 31-3 deficit to give Bill Bellicheck a near heart attack in his own Gillette Stadium.

Both of these losses were hard to watch...but from what I was expecting coming in to the season, I am still pleasantly surprised!

Now, clean up the defense that we saw this week, get the offence going before the 1st quarter is finished...and lets see what we can do moving forward!

I agree with you on a lot but the fact remains, it's the same 'ol. I see little reason to be happy with what we haver seen. A complete and dominate blowout was in the works against our main division rival with two of their best offensive weapons out and a second string starter, I see this as a big negative, not positive at all. That third QB is the only reason we got back into it, before that we were physically, mentally in the crapper...this is what has me alarmed.

The mindset that we almost won in NE and Seattle is a defeatist attitude. We won't be successful until we routinely beat these teams. A nice win against Cleveland at home won't get me off unless we rip off 5 in a row. Jets at home, tough, Bills at home, tough. Improving teams win some of these tough games, we never seem to until it doesn't matter.

I would say its not defeatist...its realist. Any coach we could have brought in needs more than 2 games to determine if he will be successful. Its a new regime and while some things remind us of the past, there is also much that does not remind me of the past.

I agree with the OP, but I would go further. Everyone must forget the last ten years. It just clouds your perspective. It is not the same old because we have a reset on the coaching staff.

I have trouble letting go myself, but it is the only way to fairly judge this year's performance.

Wtf to you expect from a first year coach whose first two games are on the road in two of th most difficult environments imaginable up against 2 Super Bowl coaches???

We really won't know who this team is until game 6 or maybe even 8. The offense was not as bad as we thought it was in Seattle. The defense is not as good as we thought it was in Seattle. The truth lies somewhere in between. I will say this...

The defense is not going to be good because they cannot stop the run. This has been my main concern since FA started. I figured the offense would take some time to get going. If your defense cannot limit the opposing team to less than 24 points....that's bottom of league type stuff.

I was a little disappointed in Joseph's plan yesterday. He's still playing "off" coverage after telling us how aggressive he was going to be with his "long and physical" corners. If you're not going to jam NE, then who? They get the ball out in less than 2 seconds so your pass rush is USELESS. You have to interrupt the timing of the WR's. Just makes ZERO sense to me. So far he's just another position coach posing as a DC.
