Its big news to me and the rest of us rabid fans.

In his MMQB column, he spoke to Sparano, who told him:

1. They're gonna work Henne into regular season games
2. Pat White will not be involved in the Wildcat.

From the article:

On his determination to get backup quarterback Chad Henne more playing time: "Chad's had 500 scrimmage reps, reps in team periods. He's played the most of all the quarterbacks [in training camp this summer]. I like the way he's coming. He's well ahead of where he was last year. What I have to do is a better job of finding ways to get him in games this year, even when Chad [Pennington] is healthy.''
On why athletic quarterback Pat White, the second-round pick, hasn't played the Wildcat in the preseason or in training camp: "He's busy trying to learn the offense. He's in the deep end of the pool right now -- the protections, the coverages, the routes. He's starting to get it, but I want him to learn the quarterback position before we get him involved in the Wildcat stuff.
"One of the biggest mistakes I could make right now is have him get all involved with this Wildcat stuff. If we were to get an injury at the quarterback position, then he's got to be the No. 2, and I'm a lot more concerned that he'll be ready to play quarterback than whether he can do that other stuff. And Ronnie Brown's still good at all that. Pat's not ahead of Ronnie.''

sparano has been saying all offseason that White has been working on just playing quarterback so far... thats not really news

the other stuff is interesting, i think only in blowouts will we see Henne if we keep winning, we just didn't have many of those situations last year where we could have did that...

First and foremost, I appreciate the info. I still wonder how Miami is going to be able to get Henne into regular season action, especially if the Dolphins have the same kind of games they did last year. Those close, down to the wire, type of games where we need Pennington leading the offense. The Pat White stuff I don't buy for a second. He'll be involved in some form or fashion.

Do you expect Sparano to tell him White will be involved in it??

Not saying he's lying, but even if he does plan to use White in the wildcat, he's not going to tell anyone, much less a national writer.

That doesn't mean Pat White will NOT run the wildcat sometime this season.
Just during training-camp, their focus has been to learn the base-offense for him.

By week 2 or 3, we'll see Pat White coming in some (5%) to run the wildcat.
Or maybe we "spring" Pat (and several NEW wildcat plays) on an unsuspecting opponent mid-season. Maybe the Pats again.......ha.

Yes...I believe without a doubt that the Dolphins drafted Pat White to be a pocket passer. ;)

That's not what NFL.com said with their TC report.. They said since he already knows the Wildcat plays from his days in college, they will use him for that early. Which is smart imo.

The Dolphins look committed to finding a way for second-round pick Pat White to play this season. The rookie has been the source of much consternation over whether he will be moved from quarterback to receiver. I expect that he will have a play or two where he winds up a receiver. But Sparano emphasized that White will not only play quarterback this year but also have a "Pat Package."

Here is how Sparano described it: He said that coaches are finding that it will be difficult to get White in command of the entire offense by the season-opener.

But the goal is to have White ready to play in Week 1 at Atlanta on Sept. 13. Thus, the Dolphins are charting the plays he knows well, executes well, shows a flair for conducting, and those plays will be his package. Sparano said when he was offensive line coach with Dallas, the Cowboys did this for quarterback Tony Romo early in his career.

Sparano could easily say, "Pat White will be involved in the Wildcat. We got a few new wrinkles that we don't want our competition to see."

How would that be a detriment to the team? He could also play it coy and say some non-answer like, "we'll see" or, "you'll have to wait till the Atlanta game to find out."

Sparano's not the type of guy to outright lie to a reporter. I believe him that White will not be involved in the Wildcat (at least for the first few weeks).

Well Sparano has already made a point of saying it's the Wildcat when Ronnie takes the snap. So yes, White may technically not be in the Wildcat.

He may, however, run a spread-style offense with similarities to the Wildcat. We've already started to see some elements used in the Wildcat used in other formations (e.g. RBs/WRs in motion, direct snaps to HB in shotgun formation with QB next to him, etc.). I think the Phins will start to blur the lines of what is and isn't Wildcat.

So it's not really a lie now is it?

Read my last post.. NFL.com called it the "Pat Package"

I think people are crazy if they think he won't be used.

Why on earth would Sparano be stupid enough to share with Peter King his plans on how he want to use Pat White, just so King can publish. In fact, if Tony was stupid enough to do that, he would lose a few points in my book.

I think NFL.com took some liberties when Sparano used the phrase "Pat package" in a presser. Sparano was just saying there will be a handful of plays that Pat is comfortable with and we want him to focus on. Not that it's a spiffy package on top of the regular offense specially designed for him or anything like that - just that they need to him to be competent with a handful of plays so he's ready to be a QB.

This is BS. Pat White was drafted for the Wild-Cat only as Chad Henne is the future at the Quarterback position. Why would Sparano tell him anything? This is crazy

I think Sparano and Parcells would be crazy...if they only use White as a pocket passer. Thats not what he is. Can he play some under center..sure...but he's best in the shotgun...when he can see the field and see where the open areas are.
