Cautionary Tale NFL Stat of the Week:
In 2013, the Miami Dolphins traded the 12th and 42nd overall picks in the draft to Oakland for the third pick in the draft and selected pass-rusher Dion Jordan from Oregon.
After two unimpactful and pricy seasons (both of those adjectives are understated), Jordan stands on the verge today of either being cut by Miami or being kept but needing to dig himself out of a huge hole with a coaching staff that doesn’t trust him to be on the practice squad, never mind start for a playoff contender

inaccurate paraphrasing IMHO

You're a paraphrasing yourself. Consider the circumstances mentioned after "being kept" - this isn't a glass half full discussion. He's on thin f***ing ice.

P.S. Smdh. Thanks Ireland. His last big draft splash is about to sink.

coaching staff that doesn't trust him to be on the practice squad but trusts him to cover gronk & megatron?

This better be a joke but regardless I can only see this hurting his trade value for the draft imo. Tisk tisk disappointed with the FO if true...

Can't we at least get a third day pick for him?

Intent may be to put a rocket up his ass and realize that this is his last chance. In a way I like that Tannenbaum and Hickey are effectively saying that his play and behavior are unacceptable. Maybe this is about sending a clear message not just to Jordan but the entire team.

Jordan didn't want to be here from day 1, when we snatched him up from playing for his college coach (at least from his perspective - we didn't give Kelly a chance to pass on him).

Add to that the fact he was largely misused after he got here.

Now he's trying to force his way out. Simple. Players and their agents will always win this tug of war.

Dion Jordan would probably prefer to be cut.

He signed a four year contract for $20.6 million fully guaranteed, which includes a $13.3 million signing bonus. The offset language "means that if Jordan is cut before his contract is up, the Dolphins would only owe the difference between his guaranteed money with Miami and his guaranteed money with his new team."

So basically, if he gets cut, he can sign for a league minimum with a team that runs a 3-4 defense (like the Eagles), and his overall income stream remains intact.

Unlike the draft process, being cut means that he can pick & choose who he signs with. He can choose a team that runs a 3-4 defense, so he can be a 3-4 OLB.

It's like the NBA draft, when teams desperately trade out of the first round due to financial realities and they actually have to compensate the trade partner to do so.

With Dion Jordan, if we attach him to a trade we'll receive less than if he's not involved

You are assigning competence and intelligence to Dion Jordan

Dion Jordan isn't worth a 7th rounder.

Absolutely terrible football IQ, no real acceleration, absolutely 0 pass rushing moves, and just looks like a buffoon out there.

people who want him to play the edge in our linebacker unit - he will get ran over and towards every single play. Weak at POA and doesn't even know how to read a defense.

He should be regulated to special teams and 3rd and distance defense
