The latest in the Peyton Manning story involves a Manning-Reggie Wayne reunion, which I'm told at least two potential suitor teams would seriously consider in an attempt to lure the rehabbing Manning if the Colts cut him between now and the March 8 deadline Indianapolis has for exercising a $28 million option bonus to keep the legendary quarterback.
Such a pairing would not only be a plus for Manning, who would love to see it happen, according to one NFL source. But also it would allow him to go to his new team with one familiar receiving face, and if you can say one thing about Manning, it's that he loves familiarity, particularly in how his receivers anticipate throws and the precision of their route-running.
Wayne, who teamed with Manning for 10 of his 11 seasons with the Colts, would allow Manning to enter a new phase in his career with a receiver who could be the template for other receivers on the team to emulate. I'm told the 33-year-old Wayne, a looming free agent when the market opens March 13, is very interested in the combo platter also. Wayne caught 862 passes in his Colt career, including 397 in a four-year span with Manning.
Where would the best fit be? Let's examine Manning's most likely suitors to see where Wayne matches up with team needs:
Miami. With Brandon Marshall at one outside receiver and Davone Bess a good slot player, Wayne could slide seamlessly into the other starting receiver spot, ahead of Brian Hartline.

It doesn't hurt that both wayne and manning were down in Miami last week working out together.

Might as well get Jeff Saturday too and slide Pouncy to guard. Murtha and Carey along with a high pick tackle to compete for the right side and as backups for Long. Draft a couple pass rusher and a safety and we are good to go.

Manning and Wayne together would be a really sweet deal. Short-term yes, but significantly more effective than getting Manning alone. Wayne will get the rest of the receivers on the same page with Manning quicker.

Man, our offense will be stacked if that happens. I wonder if Hartline can play a little tight end on passing situations.

at first, I was strongly against Manning. But I have to say, I've really turned on to the idea of drafting Tannehill ALONG with signing Manning. And if Wayne comes with it, it's hard to argue

I don't like Tannehill. Has good athleticism but is raw and stares down receivers. He also makes a lot of bad throws that are inaccurate. I'll pass and get a pure passer to learn from Manning.

6 WR's on the roster? tough stuff. someone getting traded or cut.

Does anyone else think our owner is masturbating in his dolphins peyton manning jersey right now to this thought?

Rather have Garcon, at this point in his career Wayne is a possession type of WR, we have enough of those, need a deep ball threat while Gates developes

IDK about that, but I'm certain that about a score of posters here are doing that very thing right now ...

Great - now I've gotta drink a fifth of crown just to get that image outta my head.

Maybe get a pick for Hartline as Wayne would be the number 2 receiver and just cut Roberto Wallace or Marlon Moore. Problem solved. Bess in the slot and Gates as the homerun threat (hopefully)

lol what???????

this forum comes up with the absolute craziest scenarios I would have to be on all kinds of drugs to even imagine. Brian Hartline is not a tight end. for crying out loud

No prospect is perfect. Sam Bradford had a problem of starring down his receivers in college and he ended going #1 overall. Tannehill is raw but shows a natural ability to play the position putting up decent stats with only two years of experience. He has a nice set of tools to work with as well. Picking him at 8 would be a reach but if we traded down to get him it would be nice. You make it sound like he is a terrible prospect and in the case that we were to get Manning, Tannehill would be on the bench for a few years so it would give him time to refine his tools and decision making abilities.

Does anyone really think Reggie Wayne, who is going to get his first major Free Agent deal, is going to tell teams who are willing to offer him big money...."sorry guys, thanks for the offer but Im going to hold out to see where Peyton Manning goes"...am i the only one who finds this ridiculous? Peter King is wrong on this one
