• Miami. Love Pat White; great pick to run the option. (And stop the silliness, Dolphins, about White having a good shot to beat out Chad Henne as the successor to Chad Pennington. I'm not buying it for a second.) One of the most intriguing prospects of this, or any, draft came in Round 4: 6-4 corner Sean Smith from Utah ... One guy I'd watch closely in camp is Brian Hartline, the Round 4 receiver, because he played special-teams for three years at Ohio State, played slot receiver and split receiver. He's a fascinating prospect.

not sure if this has been posted yet...just thought I'd share

Nice to see he took time from having his head up Belicheat's butt to weigh in.

I think PK, aside from being a Pats homer from time to time is a decent writer. He does go on to say this later in the article:

p. I don't like Brian Hartline to the Dolphins in the fourth round. I love it.

Overall it seems as though he likes our draft. Now Mel Kiper on the other hand is a complete moron. Anyone catch SportsCenter this morning where he gave us the lowest grade in the AFCE? I could see us MAYBE grading out lower than the Pats, but the JETS?!? They sold the farm for Matt Lienart lite! We got a potential top 10 CB at 25!!! Come on!

yeah i saw draft grades cruising across the espn bottom line.....
Its pretty hilarious how the jets draft grade is an A-
All they have to show from it is a 22 year old quarterback that looked pretty good at USC... It's very possible they get Zero impact from this draft for 1- a year 2- multiple years or 3- Never. We on the other hand got a C- for getting two top corners, trading down and getting and extra pick for one. We improved our recieving, mostly in the Red-zone ( Turner )... Those were our two biggest needs... then we used the JT pick to get a Qb who did a 1000 times more in college than Sanchez, and will without a doubt have some impact this year in multiple roles... They gave us a C-

:chuckle:

Did even pay attention to the Phins draft? What is he talking about?

I love how people label Mel Kiper as a "moron" because he gave the phins a relatively low grade. How can you blame him? We took a boom or bust corner at 25, we reached for a part time quarterback at 44 when we already have a very set plan at QB, and although Sean Smith was a good pick, we were iffy overall IMO. Ease off of Kiper, he's just doing his job. I'd be saying a lot of the same things if I were him.

I really wouldn't listen to anybody on ESPN when it comes to draft grades because

A)No matter what, the Pats were winners (first 3 picks were good, rest? Meh)
B)They'll play up the BIlls for Berman (Love Maybin and Byrd, the rest was meh)
B)They hyped Mark Sanchez up a lot so the Jets get a lot of love.

All I'm going to say is that Kiper kept giving the Lions A+ when they were drafting Charles Rodgers, Mike Williams, Teddy Lehman, Joey Harrington, and some of the other winners they've picked up.

You can grade based on your opinions and your love/hate of a player (or lack of knowledge of), but the grades are useless until the picks prove their worth on the field.

I read in Boston Magazine yesterday that he moved from NJ and now lives in the South End area of Boston, MA. I guess to spend more time in Belicheats Butt:chuckle:

But in Kiper's job, he is never held accountable. So he really isn't "just doing his job." But whatever.

Kiper, or anyone else can say whatever they want. We will know if this team is any better (irrespective of the draft) in September. We will know if this draft was good or not in two or three seasons.

The only thing I will take issue with (although I disagree with most of your assertions) is that we "reached for a part time quarterback at 44 when we already have a very set plan at QB". We do? Really? What exactly is it?

We have a veteran QB for this year, and an unproven (though highly) 2nd year guy that will likely take over next year. Will Henne not need a backup? What then?

Some of the criticisms of the PW pick are the most shortsighted I have ever seen. And he will even probably contribute this year, albeit not in standard formation set.

What better way to get your future "backup" QB some snaps than to design some plays for him in the wildcat? A reach of desperation? Hell, its more like a stroke of genius.

Pennington isn't signed for next year. Who knows what will happen. All we do know is that good teams don't wait until there is a need to address a position. We are anticipating needs and being proactive. Now to be fair, not many fans can remember the last time we did that. It has been awhile. But goodness, you guys should be cheering, not jeering. This was a great weekend for Miami Dolphins football.

Peter King is right with this. Yes Ireland said White will be part of the competition, but realistically, they don't have any plans to make him the long term starter. Their money is still on Henne developing into the guy and White was brought in to light a fire under Henne, provide good depth at QB and mostly to add an explosive player to the offense(mostly the Wildcat formation).

Anybody who seriously thinks White is a franchise QB option is kidding themselves. Henne is the guy with the best chance to have a succesful NFL starting career.

If Mel Kiper gave us a A++ I would still refer to him as a moron at best.
