TRADING PARTNER? The buzz is the Bengals and Eagles have two players that could help each other, but they may very well not play Friday night. And, it only seems to be Internet buzz.
With wide receiver Peter Warrick’s status in doubt for Friday night’s game with what has been termed a slight hamstring strain, his ability to make the team has to be in jeopardy. He has only practiced half of a week, and didn’t have a catch in the one game he’s played in. If the Bengals decide they can’t hang with him and his $2.2 million salary, they would probably love to get something for him instead of cutting him and the Eagles are reportedly shopping for receivers.
But Philly may not be able to get a close-up view of Warrick because of the hamstring. And, there is no evidence yet the Eagles are interested in him (health and money are big factors) and there is no evidence the Bengals have a desire to trade Warrick since they activated him from PUP.
The hamstring doesn’t look like it is serious enough to impact Warrick’s status. Since Warrick’s knee has been cleared by his own doctor, it’s doubtful the Bengals would lose a grievance on the knee if they cut him. But again, the Bengals have shown all indications they would like to keep Warrick if he’s healthy.
Ironically, the guy that he’s battling with for a roster spot, rookie Tab Perry, is also battling a hamstring problem. It may come down to who gets healthier first.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported recently that both the Bengals and the Ravens had trades in place for disgruntled Philly defensive tackle Corey Simon in exchange for draft picks, but couldn’t reach a deal with agent Roosevelt Barnes. But it’s believed the Bengals only briefly explored the possibility, but dropped it after initial contact with the Eagles and Barnes went nowhere. Reasons? Simon, who is sitting out, is reportedly looking for the largest contract in the league for a defensive lineman.
